I was sitting at my desk today watching video's of the rampant lunacy that is social justice fever and began to wonder "What is it about the social justice/ politically correct culture that appeals to the youth of today?" Then a lighting bolt of pure intrigue struck me as i thought "What if it's much the same as religion?, what if the decline of religion in western society is causing the influx of social justice?". So i begun researching and scribbling down my thoughts and now here we are.
I think the answer to the "what is it about the social justice/ politically correct culture that appeals to the youth of today" question is that it provides a sense of purpose, the void in one's soul that is normally filled with aspirations, goals, hopes and dreams of contributing to something greater than oneself can be fulfilled by adopting this ideology. Much alike some of the aspects of a religion.
Now, my interpretation of how certain parts of a religion appeal to people is admittedly rather simplistic, I think that it provides direction to the directionless via laying out a series of rules and good morals through story telling by which adhering to a person can be provided a wholesome manner to live by depending on the religion and society in question.
I think it also....
-Attempts to make sense of the world.
-Provides people with a sense of belonging and community.
-Tries to unify diverse people.
-Instills a sense of order.
-Allows for people to feel righteous in their beliefs and thus feel good.
-Seeks to explain the evils of the world.
However religion among the youth of today in western society has lost a lot of credibility with exponential growth of science and technology in the 21st century as well as numerous scandals stemming from the corruption of power within such large influential establishments and is still loosing credibility as time goes by. This in turn has created an influx of people looking to make sense of the world, an influx of people seeking a sense of belonging to something greater than themselves in what might be the most confusing, perplexing and profound time to be alive in human history.
The social justice/ politically correct culture provides many of the same facets of religion in a sense.
-It seeks to instill order amongst it's followers through creating a hierarchy of the supposedly oppressed.
-It explains evil by blaming all the woes of the world on the straight white male, the modern devil if you will.
-It makes it's followers feel righteous in the belief that their doctrine is superior to all others and can't possibly be subject to criticism thus making them feel good (Because lets face it, it feels good to feel right).
-It attempts to unify diverse people. (Which i wholeheartedly encourage, but in the case of social justice, diversity = oppression points which in turn = right to speech).
-Provides a sense of belonging and community to it's followers under the banner of a "great and just cause".
-Tries to make sense of the world (or at least the people in it) by basing a persons beliefs solely on the color of their skin and sexuality.
I'd like to end this by saying that what i have just wrote is neither fact nor fiction just my own food for thought and fleeting ideas and that i'd love for some opinions on the issue. Am i somewhat right? Care to show me where i am wrong? Do i come across as a complete idiot? Please feel free to comment below.
All the best

True man but figuring it out seems to be the hard part, i think following that social justice route however is just opting for an easy route to it that'll ultimately lead nowhere.
