Hello and a good day to everyone, today am going to look at a particular aspect of my life which I was engaged in to get some pocket money way back during my ND National Diploma days and the idea of making money from it was introduced by my roommate.
Knowledge is very powerful and could bring a lot of wealth, fame and fortune to you when used well and should not be taken for granted, it can build and as well destroy, it takes months/years to build a house and only few seconds to destroy always appreciate the little you have, learn from past mistake cause you never know when it would prove useful to you.
If I recall, during my secondary school days was always referred to as a computer guru, lol which I was never, although it sure felt nice when you could solve minor problem presented to you and the pay was a joyous smile that made everything seems possible, that joy you get upon achieving a new record, unlocking or able to solve a problem others couldn’t, seriously it’s one of the best feeling ever.
Looking back, usually spent a lot of time online, google was my best friend, as all information you ever needed and still need as related to software issue had already been asked, sometimes solved, other times not but it always gave you a clue as to how to solve it, thus making you a guru to those who yet to become familiar with the world wide web.
Moving forward, most of the things I learnt about mobile phone, computer and what have you was all from the internet, some individuals say they find it hard to understand whereas me it just looks clearly defined there, and what always kept me learning was the idea that even if I destroy it, as far as it belongs to me, I won’t get penalized and there is always a fix to everything after all it was created by a fellow human, so it can also be fixed by another human.
Looking back, my first android phone was a tecno d3, which came with a small internal memory, small ram and a crappy camera, the network capability was just too poor, like seriously a 2g mobile phone, although during the era of java phone, 2g mobile device was the bomb and getting an internet speed of 20-50kb/sec was a blast, games of 1mb was consider to be really interesting if only this was the case now lol.
Now what I found about the phone was its inability to collect large games, or rather it got easily filled up, even when the external memory still had some space I would always get low memory please delete, which was really annoying and I needed to change it as soon as possible, but then I had no fund. What I did was pimped the phone, downloaded a lot of interesting apps while minimizing the storage. The phone was unrootable then, try different means but all to no avail and a faithful day, a friend of mine saw the phone and was like wow, the phone had lot of cool stuff and would love it if I could get a similar phone for him, cut the story short, I was able to convince him to buy my own at that same amount I bought it and the selling point was
Am still going to be the one to install the necessary apps for you, while not just take this one with the installed app already saving us both time and days.
I bought that phone from a location, far from home and it would take me another month or week to come back depending on, if I decided to visit home while in school. The deal was done and I soon had same amount of money I initially bought the phone with.
Next day added a little more money and bought the bigger brother of tecno d3, which was tecno d5. This phone came with a not so big internal memory, also did not supports a 3g network, had a bigger screen size when compared to the d3 and the camera quality was a little bit good for that amount. Although, before going to the market I did do a little research about the phone,
How to root the phone
The phone specification and other random search.
Bought the phone the next day and the first I did was to apply root privileges, I did discuss some of its application sometime back which you can find from Here, after using the phone for few weeks, was getting bored of it and the problem of swapping your memory card to act as your internal memory came to mind, which I searched on and it seems it was possible, in which case you would be able to move your phone data files to your memory card, which is the major cause of having low internal memory this is usually caused when your phone stores offline information, especially via WhatsApp, Facebook and other social platform., now this space can be freed up but then you have to clear data which will lead to you starting all over again, if for a game, or logging in again if for a social media.
I was not ready to lose any of them, next thing I did was read a blog on how it could be archived, read the possible problem you could get when trying it.
Well, decided to try it, but first when applying any changes that would affect your phone in any form, the first thing would be to make a total backup of your current rom state.
To do this,
You could use a pc to make a backup using different software’s with your phone connected via a usb cord
Apply backup form your phone direct after installing a custom recovery.
Both are safe, but your battery must be 50% charged.
After making the backup decided to continue and the next thing I knew was, my phone was brick.
What is brick?
Brick is a state were your mobile device is more or less like a brick stone, a piece of paper and what have you, the phone is unable to respond to any command you give it, that’s unable to boot up, no vibration or light is shown to you upon pressing the power on key and other signs.
A bricked phone usually happens in two different ways:
Soft brick, this can easily be solved as it is usually caused by an unsupported app been installed, shutting the phone down in an irregular manner, or simply trying out different command you not familiar with. This can easily be solved as the name says soft brick, all you have tp do is make a restore from the backup you did save earlier.
Hard brick, this is an advance form of the soft brick, usually caused when you constantly format an unsupported rom into your phone, might be hardware related issue and most times require you taking the phone back to its manufacturer for fix, not always common but still happens.
One of the main thing you need to do is stay calm, before now, we did make a backup of our mobile device previous state before becoming brick, the previous rom is currently sitting on our ext mmc and waiting to be applied.
To solve this,
We need to boot into our recovery mode, you probably installed a clockwork recovery mode before bow, that’s when you were trying to make a backup, you need to install a custom recovery to do this as the default one don’t support this feature.
Next, after boot, locate the backup menu
Scroll to the location were you saved the file and click on restore.
You should be back to where you started. Before advancing forward try and recall what you did wrong, was it your battery? You applied a wrong app? Or what?
Upon getting the caused, you can advance forward.
To cut the story short, I was able to install the required app, that’s after restoring the backup and discovering what the initial cause was.
After installing the new app, I was now able to install a lot of apps without the fear of having a low internal memory as the ability to push both data and apk file was available now and the only requirement was to have a good size ext mmc, that’s able to accumulate this many.
But as usual there is always a disadvantage to every advantage.
Now what I didn’t put into consideration was, would there be any negative effect to me moving the data files to an ext mmc?, probably if I did knew what could go wrong, wouldn’t have decided to apply this changes.
Now you wondering how?
When you move the data from your internal memory to the external memory, upon booting your phone, your phone is required to run a startup properly and most of this data will be available in your internal memory for a brief moment before they are adjusted back to your external memory and having to install close to triple the size of the internal memory, the phone was jam-packed and the menu button was no longer responding, I couldn’t open any of my phone files literally and the need to do a new wipe was needed, losing all my data that was currently present on my internal storage space.
After solving the above I was able to customize similar device to work that way, giving the warning to users.
Man I was really happy, and soon later more users came knocking on my door, which took a lot of my time and my roomie brought an idea.
If they are willing to disturb you all time, you should be able to get some benefits from it as well.
At first it did not feel right but over time I was used to it and my pay was not generally money, it could be snack and what have you, just bring something along with you when coming.
And that’s a little brief history about me.
Hope you enjoyed it and do have a good day.
Wow! what an intriguing life history You gave.
I really enjoyed this post and thanks for educating us on things we do not really know about our android devices.
You are indeed appreciated.
