As some of you many know, I run a YouTube channel, and even though most of the time I don't gain a lot of subscribers, I still accomplish a lot.
I've been making videos for a long time now. I don't have a lot of subscribers, but I still feel pumped every day and almost always feel like I'm making progress. Why? It comes down to this: I focus on what I can influence.
What can't I influence? Subscribers, views, watch time, and shares. What can I influence? Thumbnail quality, video quality, what the video is about, tags, descriptions, how I feel about the video, and how many videos I make. As you can see, there are many more things that I can focus on that I can actually influence. I consider subscribers and such a bonus.
Take for example any of my Vlog of a Small YouTuber videos. Those, in my opinion, are some of my best work and I consider them way better than the video I made called "What I Think of Shortcut Kits in Battlefield 1." However, the Battlefield 1 video has 1/3 of my channel views, while all my VSY videos have a fraction. Even looking at the thumbnails that I've made, the VSY thumbnails are way better than the Battlefield 1 one.
Like I said, the key is I focus on things that I can influence, and not things that I can't. Many people quit YouTube after about ten videos because their subscribers aren't growing. They fail to realized that their video making skills have improved, or that they learned more in Photoshop.
This is the logic that I apply to Steemit. Yeah, money is involved, but that doesn't matter. There is no way that I can influence who upvotes and who doesn't, and certainly no way to influence the price of Steem. However, if I just focus on making good content for this platform, the bonus of followers and money will come.
So I ask you this. Do you focus on things like followers? Or do you focus on things you can change?
