On criticism --- Be a builder first before you criticize others.

Never tear down anything unless you're prepared to build something better in its place.

A good line of quote, that one... and while you might be wondering what it's about, this rule basically applies to both individuals and things as well. You see, it's easy to criticize people thoughtlessly when they have mistakes and shortcomings, and it's equally easy to spot the faults in their works from afar, especially in situations that aren't to your liking. However, it's far more difficult to give compliments when they are due, or to come up with something original on your own, or to be a builder of people or profitable businesses.
For a lot of people, their tolerance level for ideas and suggestions that aren't completely theirs is literally nonexistent, and this makes them highly critical and argumentative. Make one mistake and you're getting your very life yelled outta you. Here's the thing; You don't want to come off as a kind of person that is bitter and hard to put up with. People don't have to know you as someone who's always having a bad day and aren't discriminate when it comes to throwing all that negative energy around. All that does is that it leads to emotional distance and severs human connectedness.
One thing you should do before you ever begin talking or criticizing, is to make sure you've accomplished something yourself, and that you're a builder of people and things rather than being a destroyer. Whether you criticize the actions or work of your friends, children employees or others, you want to make sure your criticisms are as positive as they come, and are directed at the opportunity for improvement rather than the individual's personality. You want to be sure that while criticizing, you make specific suggestions for their application and focus on the potential for success.

See the good in people, and call that good out

I've got one of such guys as a colleague. He just engages in destructive criticism, more like a pessimist. Often ,it's down to temperament mis-control. Build yourself first. Nice job @pangoli

Thank you for the awesome feedback buddy.

Legit and reasonable writeup; most times people flare up trying to get a speck of wood out of other's eyes while forgetting the log of wood in their eyes..... We must all learn to live right before we aim at getting others on the right track; don't be a nuisance and go around trying to set people on track, you'll look like a clown...... Take out some time and ammend your life first

Talk about taking out the grain of sand in a friend's eyes and not notice the big log of wood in yours. lol. Criticisms to myself first, then others.

Thanks for the reply.

Criticism is a part of human nature that's difficult to evade.

It takes alot of self control to understand that people do things with the beat of their ability. Rather than criticise, complement and then pick out flaws for improvement to be made.

You just made me pity @ned. Being a decision-maker is no fun

and Rule #1: you can never make a decision that will satisfy everybody.

Lol. why's everyone suddenly pitying ned?

Oh that's a good idea when we've calmed down after ranting off something. Some things are just better to be called out first so they stop doing whatever it is they're doing. Calling it out is different than criticizing, it is not judging but if someone hurt you, the first instinct is always to hurt them back too which then involves more and more people.

It takes a better human being to be able to do what you are suggesting the first instance a confrontation happens... Now all we need is to be a bit more cool when someone pokes and pushes our buttons and we're off to a great start like what u suggest. :)
