There is no knowledge that is not power
Though originally quoted by Ralph Waldo Emerson, the American essayist, poet and philosopher, a good number of gamers around the world might have gotten to know this quote through the 1995 classic Midway game - Mortal combat 3- on SEGA Genesis and other consoles.
If like me, your childhood was blessed by the gods of gaming, then this quote would be familiar to you. However, this post is not so much about the quote itself as it is about the meaning it portrays, and hopefully, in very few words, I would do justice to it.
There is no knowledge that is not power
Words on marble! one i recently got to grasp the meaning. A lot of opportunities to learn something new might have been overlooked. Chances missed and foregone because you might feel "what's the point anyway." We tend to feel that a particular knowledge or idea wouldn't be appreciated in the society. Well screw society, and the box we've all been fit in since childhood! not everyone gets to be doctors and lawyers and engineers anyway.
Sometimes, we back out because of the chance to be better because of criticism and lack of support. "Dad said to let go 'cos it's crap", "John said not to", "maybe I'll find a more convenient time for this." blah blah blah... Well guess what, you just might miss out on the next big move in your life or career.
There is no knowledge that is not power
What you know paves the way for you. it gives you a voice, an edge, an advantage over people who do not have that knowledge. maybe it's a skill. If you've git it in you, you've got it in you and would always be in high demand regardless of whether people hate you or not. consider this scenario: Let's say i had a fight with a doctor that lives next door, and i hate him so much. All of that wouldn't matter if I suddenly had a life-threatening illness and he's the only shot I've got. Despite the hate, i would have no option than to go to him for help. That's the power knowledge affords. It positions you right there at the top.
Also, it would be a shame not to mention that although knowledge is power, it needs a kinda activating force. -Application!-
What's the use of my doctor-neighbour if all he had was just the name and the knowledge without any prior experience? what's the use of all the motivation, lectures, skills and push you've accumulated over time if you cannot figure how the hell a screw works as an engineer? What a whammy! It would be such a horrible waste of time and resources.
So here's the thing: Take your learning process serious, know what you want and learn to shut off immature criticisms, and go ahead and grab that knowledge!
There is no knowledge that is not power
The Mortal Kombat image just teleported me back to my childhood, when I had a book of moves of all the characters in the game, I will never forget Subzero's "BBYBY" fatality move.
And that is a knowledge I gained as a kid if today I stumble on a Throwback Thursday gaming competition, where Mortal Kombat is being featured; I am sure I'll kick ass (Knowledge applied)

Rightly said. But applied knowledge is more powerful; so inventing in oneself gives one an edge and ignorance has no defense
