While I miss all of the activities, I do enjoy the downtime.
Sometimes, I long for the activities that we get to enjoy in the warm weather. We had so much fun with them earlier this year, and cannot wait for their return. However, the "downtime" is also much appreciated, and it gives me the opportunity to focus on some other worthy projects. Here's a short list of examples.
THE CHANGING SEASONS
Bowfishing is near the top of my list. When the carp and suckers spawn in the spring, it can be an amazing time and an excellent way to provide a lot of food for your family. Next spring I plan on allowing the Little-Peppers to give it a try too. While you can bowfish year round here, it's just the easiest and most productive earlier on in the year.
Once the weather cools and the sun starts to set at about 5 pm, the inside projects move up on the to do list. At the moment we are beginning to work on our wood stove install, and which each cold day we have a little more incentive and encouragement to get that project done. When the cold and the darkness keep us inside more, it's a good switch for us to get some things done indoors too.
The fun activities of summer like cliff jumping and swimming are also missed as the weather cools, but this also helps us out. When there are less "fun" activities available, it just helps us focus on getting more work done around here. Soon enough we'll be snorkeling and diving in again.
Gardening can be another labor intensive task. Once we shift away from planting, weeding, watering, harvesting, and preserving, we've still got another tasks to focus on like adding to the raised beds, mulching the pathways, and building more garden area too. While the work doesn't stop twhen the weather cools, it does slow down and there are less time demands on our labor in the garden.
So, what do you miss about the warmer weather (for those in the northern hemisphere) and what do you like about it getting colder? If you are somewhere with the opposite seasons, just reverse those questions, and feel free to let us know.
I'm enjoying the temperate abundance in Thailand where we DO have distinct seasons, just not quite as dramatic.... I especially love that gardens grow and thrive here all year round. The lush tropical thing gets addictive.

I do miss the dramatic changes in the seasons. Down here it just gets a bit to cold to not go swimming. Other than that I’ve not seen snow in so many years. I do miss some of the outdoor thrills winter brings up north.
