When I was a kid, our family spent almost a year living in a trailer home. There were 9 children and my parents living together in this house on wheels. It was cozy. You really learn to love your family when you're that close.
The Pepper's haven't reached 11 yet but you're getting closer. You could probably weather a couple years in a mobile home together while you Steem your way to the Tank house on 40 acres. Either way you go, I'm really looking forward to one day seeing a picture of this under construction.

I don't comment often and I just happened to click on this video of yours today...sometime God does put things in your path, even your own talk about this.
We have thought of this so many times ourselves but in our own version (not tons of land for farming which I'd love but @winstonalden would hate;) ) but these type of decisions.
For my two cents to you and completely not asked, my advice is land...LAND LAND LAND you cannot make or build more land...Buy Land. Go to where the land is and get as much as you can afford.
I'm not sure if you are familiar with modular housing but it's factory made housing sort of a step up from mobile homes adn you can design off basic shapes. They are made quicker in a factory and delivered and assembled not as expensive as traditional stick build onsite housing. You could start with a good base shape on your 40 acres and plan openings and doorways to be future connections as you can afford to add another house to that and keep growing it, meanwhile you have LAND to spread out and increase your garden and animals and your homestead.
For what it's worth from the words of a complete stranger who has nothing to gain or lose by your decisions, I just felt compelled to type this to you. The best of luck to your family and follow your hearts. :)

Mobile homes are built pretty poorly, but they can work as a home-base until your plan materializes! I admit, I used to have somewhat of a stigma against them...until I started living in one. We bought some land that had an old mobile home with plans to build our Real house next year or so. Our single-wide may be considered small, but totally fine for our family. I know your family is bigger than mine, but I had a friend once tell me, "love grows large within small walls." And like they say, they're not making any new land. But I can see why it's a tough decision.
And as for quitting Steemit, I can totally understand that. I have often gotten weary of the falseness of much of the "community" of the platform at large. Homesteading is kind of a weird corner of it for us, where there's often actually real people, but even glancing at the comments on this blog, I can see so many comments from people who have obviously not listened to your video. It's frustrating for me to see things like that at first, but then I look out the window at my ducks and chickens and the place where I'm going to put our first garden, and it all fades in an instant. I've been really enjoying REAL life, kind of like what you posted a few days ago--the life that I don't share on Steemit, the life where what I do remains when I close the computer and walk away.
I guess the only thing I could say (without knowing your family but believing you when you say that you follow the Father) is to never make a decision based on fear of anything or anyone other than the Father alone. He always provides!

The home we built is a modern mobile home, they are actually built fairly well. We have 2x6 outer walls on the long side, some how our purchase order got changed and the upgraded side walls didn't happen and we got 2x4. But that is what modern homes are built with on site anyways. We did have issues, I don't know if you read about any of them. But over all, we are in our house in less than 6 months. We went through home nation and got the basic with the only upgrades in the structure of the home. Like regular house doors (they put the wrong doors on, they are suppose to be replaced by the 15th) and windows. The price for the house was $40K that included delivery but not the set of the home, we spent another $10K for the set and finish of the house. You can save money if you do the finish work yourself. We decided to pay someone else to do it because I have some back issues, and my husband works 12 hour days.
We didn't have to drill a well, but did have to install a septic tank. Even if you do it yourself, it could cost some money for the system itself. What type of system you have to install is based off soil tests. Have you had them done yet? The system we had to install cost us about $11K for the system another $6K for labor.
I also highly suggest if you go modular aka mobile that you put it on a foundation and not piers. The reason why, is if you ever decided to sell, you will have to have a cash buyer if you put it on piers, or fiance it yourself and that can be a nightmare. If you put it on foundation, a person can get a regular type mortgage on it. We went with a basic model inside are are going to slowly make upgrades to the house. Once we are done you won't be able to tell it isn't a stick built home. And our mortgage is $300 less than our rent was.

Sounds like a money issue. If I were you and I am not, and hesitant in putting money in a new house, but feel more comfortable getting a new or used Mobile home. Then that is what I would do. Better to buy 40 acres with the mobile then in IMHO. Sleep on it. Maybe more than one night.

I can kind of relate to what you’re talking about. We know that one day we’d like to move, but we have no idea when that one day will be. So then do we bother investing more money into this place to make it our own, or do we just leave it alone? I personally dread making plans not knowing what the future brings, but we have to make decisions sometime. papa - picking between building your vision of your lifetime house/homestead over time vs just getting it done is a difficult choice. I have no advise, but will share a story of some relatives.
They bought land, worked for a decade on weekends to make it beautiful, saved money and built a house they could grow old in, doors wide enough for wheel chairs, walk in showers, ability to have the chair lift between floors really planned it well to suit them as they aged. After working that hard, and living there 5-10 years, only a few in retirement they decided to sell. They desperately wanted to move closer to grand kids spend their time with family. They were willing to give it up to be closer to family. You never know where life will lead you in a decade.
I hope you find comfort in whatever path you choose.

I just stumbled across your video and am not sure why you feel so sad. (That's how your voice sounds).
What is it in particular that you're struggling with? What I hear is that you're trying to make a decision who's time has not yet come.
It sounds like you are trying to decide between 2 things and that one of those choices (possible the one you feel you should take) is not where your heart is.
Forgive me if I am completely off base with this.
I haven't been following your posts so do not know your story, although I've heard of you (hard not to if you're active on Steemit 😁) and I know you have done a lot of good here.

I'm probably being overly practical here, but would it be an option to get that mobile home and build an extendable house in stages? I know that some of the farm houses in The Netherlands from the 17th century onwards were sometimes built that way, all based on oak beam frames, with annexes built if and when necessary, using locally sourced materials. These houses have survived for centuries. I don't have any blueprints, though 8-).

I appreciate your concerns as at one time I had these same type decisions to make.A house on farmland doesn't increase the value of the property very much. We had the land and a growing family but would have to pay for a good bit of the house with future earnings. We settled for a modest house that could be added to as needed. With one large addition we were able to truly enjoy our family in a house that we could afford. Many happy times were spent there with family and friends. I only wish we had had the knowledge of houses completely cut in a factory and sent as a package to the building site. That would have saved lots of time and costs. Sometimes we just need to say our prayers and spend much time listening and waiting upon the Lord for answers. All the best to you and your family!

There a couple of things that stand out for me in your vlog. One you have 9 acres of land that will let you do the things you enjoy but somehow I get the feeling deep down you would like to do more and are restricted by land size.
The second is a desire for a home for your growing family. I don't think it is necessary for the comfort and safety of your family that you require a tank of a house. Think about the future. In a very few years, your family will be grown and they will want to stretch their wings and fly from the nest. Perhaps not far but they will want to. Then you and mama-pepper will have a home larger than you require to be comfortable that requires lots of upkeep. Are you following my drift? I am older, been there and done most of these things.
I think that there is a solution here, you just need to talk it over with mama-pepper and pray a bit more. One possible solution is to acquire a bit more land. Put a mobile home on it until you are ready to build something more suited to your lifestyle. You love the animals and the food they provide for your family. This is one way to have both.
Or you could stay where you are, build a smaller home and expand the land by buying another piece close to you. I have been in the position of building several homes over the years and have downsized each one. You would be surprised how little space we use each day.
There you have it, @papa-pepper. My opinion for what it is worth. I will keep you and your family in my prayers while you wrestle with this decision.

I watched your crossroads video today and really understood where you are at.
I just wanted to say that in my life when I have had big decisions to make and not felt very sure of my path moving onward that it always helped me move forward to remember that God never sends us more than we can deal with.
The decisions we make and the way we live our lives are sometimes overwhelming when so much is at stake but be confident that with God's grace you will do exactly what you are meant to do....whatever you decide.

What I have found is God likes it when we keep moving. Delight in Him, acknowledging Him in all your ways amd He will make your paths straight.
Like steering a car. If it is not moving you can turn the wheel all you want and no change of direction. But is it is moving, a little turn of the wheel changes the direction of the car. So with our life. We purpose to please God. He steers us as we go!
We wind up at our destination, not because of our wisdom, but because of His Faithfulness!
I saw a guy build just a basement. Did EPDM roof over just the basement. He lived there with his family for years! His priorities were a little strange. While living in the basement He put in an I ground swimming pool and the nicest shop.
But later built a nice house above. While living in the basement area. If you are using the insilated forms. Would work!
Purchasing a used mobile home and selling it when you are finished, probably for the same price. If it were me, I would do something like either one of these.

This is what we lived in here. I built, except for the siding and roof, out of materials off of the land. A mahogany tree for floor and inside paneling. This is still in use for a kitchen. My wife, our son and I lived in this for 1 1/2 years.

@papa-pepper you can do anything you put your mind to, just keep your head up and keep moving forward, I feel you life is rough at times and the lord will show you the way. Where there's a will there's a way. Me and my girl bought a mobile home 2 years ago and its prefect for now we are trying to find a piece of land to move it to to start our own little homestead. AS I am a Mom and have been through my own trials and am still going through them but I am a tad older then you I will give you my advice to do with it what you will.
Make sure the land you have is Exactly what is BEST for you and your family. The land is Land. It is where dreams and homes are made. Land to grow your family is the most important thing.
Land gives you the base for the rest of your life and the lives of your children and their children. Why it is so important. It is the ground floor for generations to come.
The house. There is a compromise between a trailer and a 250K house. Yes, you might be cramped a bit but being a bit cramped helps make a family interact. Interacting is what families are *all about.
A cheap trailer will always take up your time in the fixing of it so will leave less time for you to spend with your children and Wife. So just throw that thought to the wind.
You through hard work, and yes, Steemit is hard work, made what you now have. Nowhere does Jesus say not to enjoy the gifts he has given you but to use them in the most efficient way.
For you, that is a piece of land that you and your family for generations can grow on and a house that will be warm and cozy and keep the family as one. Always.
Children don't need their own rooms. They need their Mom and Dad's time, in a house that is strong and safe that they will always call home.

It's completely a call for everyone to mantain hope to this platform. To be honest, when I first joined, I thought to myself, "I cannot get money from here. It's way too difficult." But I had to try, and I did. Its wonderful how people can support you, up to the point where I can earn without working in my condition. Its a blessing.

Money is just a tool, and who knows for how long the fiat U.S. dollar will retain its value. That being said, there are also serious things to consider.
We all love the idea of owning a home, but you have to remember that you'll never own the land itself. The State engages in landlordship, and when you have to pay property taxes, and be subjected to zoning laws is when you really feel the truth of it.
That brings us to zoning laws, make sure you have the foresight to be zoned for anything, and everything that you've planned to build, or want to do on the land, this includes farming. There might be a middle path that draws a little from both ideas.
You could buy a yurt or build your home with cargo crates or find some means of building an affordable home that is still spacious, but also leaves you with some free’d up assets. Instead of spending it all in one go. There are lots of YouTube videos about ways to build houses more frugally.
I guess the important stuff would be getting a septic system, and access to power, and maybe even having enough for property taxes to cover the land for 10 years into the future.
Other ideas are protecting the land or house after you get it, by getting liens placed on them by other parties that you can control. I’m no expert on the matter, but this guy has some info. I am not sure if the same tactic can be applied to the land itself, and or if there is a way to obtain alloidal title.
All of these things are probably worth looking into.

I didn’t read all the comments so I’m sorry if I’m a comment repeater...
United Built Homes. They’re a modular home company that prefabs homes and can put them up in a week or so. There are other companies who do the same. They are much like mobile homes only built on site.
Just an option.
And I agree with going for more land. More land at a great price is peace of mind and a piece of PEACE.

I watched this one on YouTube this morning, and I feel you.
We are at a similar crossroads right now, and it is HARD trying to figure out if this is the destination God has for us, or a stop along the journey...
