How much is there that we don't know about but that has been discovered?

I have heard many a time that, "knowledge is power " and, "An inquiring mind is the key to the secrets of the universe " . This much I believe but ,what are they keeping from us?

Electricity was first used for street lighting in 1879 and was discovered long before that. The first driving automotive was built between 1885 and 1886. The first successful airplane was built and tested in 1903. The first programmable computer was created between 1936 and 1938. And a marvel called superconductors were discovered in 1911.

We have had all of these things for nearly a century and look how far we have come from these discoveries. The point that I am trying to make is this, much has been drastically improved and perfected after an astronomical amount of experimenting but surely after so much experimentation, humans have discovered more.

Things that the public hasn't the feintist exist, are common topics amongst scientists but why is it all kept from us?
Is it because large corporations are making more money off of current products and methods, despite negative effects . Is it because of speculation about the possible negative effects or that if such technology fell into the wrong hands that it could cause intense destruction?

I am afraid that humanity has become a very complicated mess my friends but one cannot help but think of how magnificent the world would be without the limitations that we create for ourselves.
