While on holiday at the seaside resort of Umtentweni in Kwazulu Natal I came across this sign on the door of the local Kwikspar while doing some grocery shopping. At first I only gave it a cursory glance but then I read it properly and couldn’t help laughing out loud at what I read.
The wording was as follows –
“Win a FREE ride in a Police Car just by shoplifting from this store. Lucky winners can also get their names in the newspaper for their friends and family to see. Won’t Mom be so proud?”
This is a good example of using sarcasm to get your message across, especially to the thieves. The clever use of the bold and underlined word FREE in capitals is what drew my attention to the sign in the first place otherwise I would have walked right past without reading it. I reckon anyone who has intentions of stealing from this shop will definitely have second thoughts after reading this sign!
