Bookshelf Re-do

in life •  6 years ago

My husband had a bookshelf that we were fond of despite it’s hideous dirty mint paint job and it’s all around shabbiness. The shelf proportions were perfect, and as a family that values reading and books, the more bookshelves we have, the better. When it came time for us to plan our cross-country relocation, we purged ourselves of many pieces of furniture. Worried we wouldn’t have enough bookshelves, we ended up keeping the ugly, old shelves and schlepping it across the country with the rest of our stuff that made the final rounds.

When our furniture made it to New Mexico, we decided to give the bookshelf new life by using it in our son’s room. The heinous light green of the bookshelf wouldn’t match the rest of his room, so we took this opportunity to breathe new life into the shelves with a necessary upgrade.

This is the book case with the shelves removed, awaiting it’s new look:

We lightly sanded down the old paint job, to give the new paint some texture to stick to.

We chose this bright blue hue, as it would match perfectly with our son’s room.

After painting, we used contact paper to line the inside.

We secured the bookshelf to the wall, so our son could have easy access to his books and we wouldn’t have to worry about the bookshelf falling on him. I don’t know that he cares what color it is, but he sure loves being able to grab his books when he wants to read.

While your story is excellently told about your inter country relocation with your cherished bookshelf; my interest is in the fact that @pinkspectre family loves books and loves to read. I am particularly about this because we live in a World where reading culture is moribund !!

As usual, @pinkspectre is a delight to read.

excellent choice, you got a bright mind :)
