THE FIVE BEST BOOKS I've read this year — culture, language, history and psychology

I was a little familiar with Pinker's books, but the other three I'd never heard of, so thank you. At the end of the first review, "pros" should have an e at the end to make "prose."

I did a review of Chuck Klosterman's latest book here, which is definitely about culture, and partly about cognition, since his thesis is that the way we think drives how we remember history, and how the future will remember us and our culture.
