Preserving Indigenous Australian Stories and LanguagesteemCreated with Sketch.

My old school friend, Felicity Meakins has been working with Australia's Indigenous people to conserve the aboriginal language and stories. This story was posted on the The ARC Centre of Excellence for the Dynamics of Language Facebook Page.

"Congratulations to Violet Wadrill who was a finalist in the Indigenous Digital Story-telling Category of the Connecting Up - Australian Not For Profit Technology Awards. Violet has worked extensively with CI Felicity Meakins on the documentation of Gurindji. The nomination honoured Violet’s dedication to the linguistic and aesthetic aspects of her culture and her abiding passion for the maintenance of her traditions."

Here's another story that was produced by Felicity. It's Violet telling the story of Ngarlking Karu (Greedy Child).

I think it's so important that we preserve the tenuous link that remains between the indigenous keepers of Australian culture and modern day Australia.
