Hey Steemers!

Here are 4 interesting things that you may not know about Pablo Escobar...

A zoo at home

At the end of the 1970s, when his fortune grew rapidly, Pablo Escobar offered himself a luxurious residence, the Hacienda Nàpoles. So luxurious it even included a zoo. Elephants, rhinoceros and zebras lived there peacefully. So peacefully that the hippopotamus of Pablo Escobar strode in perfect freedom, until invading the neighboring river, causing big problems to the local fishermen. Today, their proliferation is such that it is impossible to find enough places in the zoos of the country to accommodate them. Hisl house also included a very rare goat, an ostrich, ponies or antelopes.

A little morbid celebration

To say that Pablo Escobar was violent would be an evidence. But one afternoon particularly marked the spirits of his entourage. During a small party organized in his garden, he was alerted by one of his men that one of the waiters was stealing silverware. Escobar ordered the alleged thief to be brought into question and had him bound tightly. He then threw it into the pool around which the jumping took place. As the man drowned in front of the audience, he swore that this was the fate of all those who tried to deceive him.

Had a prison sentence in his own prison

Escobar has a long history in the city of Medilla and its surroundings, the historic stronghold of its cartel, where it has built many infrastructures, including a prison. When he surrendered to the authorities in 1991, he negotiated for imprisonment. Curiously, an hour after his incarceration, the National Constituent Assembly votes the non-extradition of the Colombian nationals. In this prison Escobar has built a discotheque, a jacuzzi and everything that could make it resemble to a villa. A real holiday club. He could then reign serenely on his cartel, especially since he had negotiated that the authorities could not approach within 20 km of the prison. He remained until his escape in June 1992, during which he even took a hostage, the Deputy Minister of Justice, Eduardo Mendoza, marking the beginning of a gigantic manhunt.

The Popeye Killer Released

Pablo Escobar's right hand "Popeye" was released after spending twenty-three years in prison in Colombia. He was arrested in 1989 for the murder of presidential candidate Luis Carlos Galan in August 1989. He was the official killer of the Medellin cartel leader. During his trial, Popeye confessed to twenty-five murders and participated in 540 assassinations. He also confessed to having ordered about 3,000 murders on behalf of the cartel.

If anyone is interested in learning more about him, the TV show Narcos is a very good show to watch. While it may not be the most historically accurate show on the subject (as far as I can tell), it is incredibly entertaining.

I know I'm watching it on Netflix, it is really interesting, you're right :) Thank you by the way

great series indeed !
