How Do We Know If Something Is Right Or Wrong As Christians?

"And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him. " (Colossians 3:17)

Many times in our lives as Christians, we are usually stuck with questions of rights and wrongs. Despite the fact that God has provided all the answers we need, yet we keep on searching to satisfy our insatiable curious minds. From foods to words, from clothes to deeds; our minds just kept right on inquiring.

While there is nothing wrong with knowing what is right from what is wrong, it is most important to realise that God's indwelling Spirit in us works out Salvation in our lives and that there can't be a better Source of answers He would lead us to than His own Words. Google can't do this; Internet won't either.

The Word of God makes it clear in the above verse that everything we do both in words and deeds should be done in His Name. In other words, "Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God." (1 Corinthians 10:31) It can't get more clearer. We can't understand this more.

In conclusion, to know things acceptable to our Lord and Saviour Jesus simple: If what we do gives Him glory; if what we indulge in can be done in His name. And if it doesn't comply with these criteria of God's Word, then we can be sure of how dangerous such thing may be.

Magical. So clean.

Thank you

No, doing it all to the glory of God doesn't lead you into doing right. You could commit adultery to the glory of God.

No, knowing right from wrong isn't "a bad thing". It's extremely important. What's more important than knowing if what you're saying or doing violates God's commands????

It should be obvious that you don't break the commandments. And that if you have to keep thinking of ways why your actions are OK then most likely what you're doing is wrong.

I really appreciate your view @barncat. It's true, God's command tells us what's right different from wrong and that His words should we abide. However, don't get it twisted. If what we do is not tethered to God in whatsoever manner, we can be sure how delicate such may be. Being adulterous is never associated with God, neither can it give Him glory and our conscience bears witness of this.

Jesus Christ our Lord also told us that He that is not with Him is against Him. So, I believe that glorifying Him in all we do definitely associate us with Him.

Bless you @barncat
