Had quite a lot of interviews this year, and managed to land a job a few months ago. The awkwardness in those can be extreme, especially if you see that this is going nowhere by the middle of a conversation. Regardless, to people who are struggling with it, I have this to say - go in there like you have nothing to lose and don't think too much. I got a job after sending my CV just for the hell of it. And I went in there without any expectations. You never know what might happen.
