Now is common place to see most people in restaurants, social events, walking by the street, in meetings and even family reunions absorbed by their cellphones and their social networks.
And that makes me wonder when was the last time these people gave a hug or any kind of physical demostration of support and affection.
And this come to my mind because everyday I see less real contact between people, and by real I mean the contact that gave origin to human nature, that involves the use and perception of all the senses. Because in the small world of social networks you don't use all your senses and the perception of the world is incomplete.
Senses evolved as a mechanism not only to perceive the world, but to discern between danger and opportunity, to assess others intentions, to select bad from good, in the end to survive. But the small world of social networks does not allow to use our senses to its full potential, making us vulnerable to things that we can't properly evaluate, like other people's intentions, a world in which appearance is more important than essence, in which the image you have from others is build from what you think than from you really know, because you have to do it from incomplete information or in many cases deceiving.
Because of that incomplete perception of the world is that people ended up in selfdestruction games like the blue whale game, or people got into trouble with bullying or sexual harashment. And it is illogical to expect a more fulfilling experience from something that can't provide it.
If you really want a fulfilling and rewarding experience, give a hug, a kiss, talk softly to someone you love, because that will estimulate all your senses, you will have a better way to assess people's intentions, and a more complete life.
Find some equilibrium between the real world and that small world of social networks, get to know others by all your senses to know yourself better. That's the only way you are going to have the opportunity to fill the voids in yout life and remember that you can't expect to do this from a less complete world and experience.
Paraphrasing, a hug is worth more than a thousand chat words.
