“Life is not complex. We are complex. Life is simple, and the simple thing is the right thing.” — Oscar Wilde (author).
To some, simplicity might seem like something to avoid, but keeping things simple does not allow you to get distracted by the temptations that life offers. There are many benefits of living a simple life.
Less Stress:
You can appreciate simple things and still live a glorious life, but one that is a little less stressful. You will find that simple things, like walking, looking at the clouds, and smelling flowers will make you happy. Happiness means different things to different people, but studies show that the simple things in life are far more satisfying than the material things.
When you have achieved simplicity in life, you feel more relaxed about everyday situations, and simplicity becomes a habit. When simplicity is your focus in life, lots of your worries go away.
You will be so much better off when you are focused on your own life instead of worrying about what everyone else is doing. By focusing on what is more important, you will have lower stress levels and you will be healthier. Simplicity is about focusing on what is most important to you and letting the rest go.
You will focus on things that are really important:
With simplicity in your life, it is easier to recognize what is really important from all the various things competing for your time and attention. Things flow more easily in your life when you have one clear and simple goal. Choosing to simplify life and be a simpler person is one of the ways of having a happier, more flourishing life.
More time to do things you want:
One of the most important benefits is that simplicity gives us choices about how to spend our time, money, and energy. This is not simply because it is a counterweight to all the complications in modern life. It would be a force in your life, bringing benefits and changes you never imagined at first.
Imagine not having to spend as much time keeping your life organized and dealing with all the things that you did not need or want. If you work toward spending a simpler life, there would be plenty of time for you to work on your hobbies, go outside, live an active life, and exercise.
Saves Money:
By living a simple life, one can save a lot of money. A simple lifestyle requires lesser things. Therefore, you won’t be buying many things. You won’t be spending lots of money on dining at expensive hotels; instead, you would prefer a simple meal. You can sell off things you don’t require.
You should not be afraid of being simple:
When you think about it, perhaps you might find simplicity to be unrealistic. You won’t believe how hard people find being simple, and how afraid they are of being simple.
I also think that there is a level of social experience that is necessary before you get good at telling what is too fundamental or easy, what is right, and what is making things a little too complicated. Like many areas, I think that oftentimes, you can be socially fine by yourself as long as you stick to the basics and avoid any major faux pas (something you say or do that is embarrassing or offends people). Sure, it is great if you can pull off the occasional funny one-liner or weave in a sparkling anecdote, but a lot of times, you can be effective socially by keeping things simple and following proven fundamentals.
In thinking and deconstructing simplicity, I came up with some things I know are true. A thorough understanding of simplicity, as well as the things that impede it, is critical in building a solid foundation to think about pursuing or even acknowledging it.
Simplicity leads to clarity rather than confusion and decisions rather than hesitations. Keeping things organized and harmonious is the greatest benefit of simplicity. Simplicity is what brings harmony, tranquility, and peace within.
The truth is simplicity is almost always a good thing because by focusing on it, your creative work becomes easier to understand, easier to recognize, easier to use (if it requires using), easier to extend (if needed), and just plain easier to produce. Simplicity, be it in speech, the tagline of a product, application, or a cheese sandwich, takes restraint and courage to create, but will outperform complexity more often than not - in marketing, in business operations, and in your day-to-day lives. Your journey may be inspired by others who have shared stories about simplicity, but in the end, you will find a version of simplicity that is best for your own life.
Thinking less, healing old wounds, and eating less are parts of living simplistically and will help you live a healthier and better life.
