A daughter tells the police her dad raped her eight times over a period of six years
As I was researching and reading a few articles about family relationships and bringing up kids, this news about an alleged case of rape showed up. News is about a daughter accusing her dad of rape... and mention of the book Fifty Shades of Grey.
The act of any type of rape is horrible in itself and what did Fifty Shades of Grey have to do with it?
This daughter told the police her dad raped her eight times over a period of six years.
She described in detail the events of rape and how her body felt. Her dad’s only defence was ‘I did not do it’
Eventually the defence barrister Cathy McCulloch (brought in very late: 2 days before the ground rules hearing, a week before trial.) noticed something was not natural with the phrasing used by the girl accusing her dad.
When the father mentioned her daughter’s favourite book was Fifty Shades of Grey alarm bells rang.
Ms McCulloch obtained the case to be adjourned so that the defence team could read the book!
The cross-examination - Ms McCulloch wrote: “I started gently to put the complainant at ease. She agreed her father was strict, and that she was really annoyed with him for “ruining her life”…
… “I raised the striking similarities between her interview and the book. She suddenly broke and said I was absolutely right. She had made the whole thing up because she was angry with her father and wanted to teach him a lesson.
…“The Judge directed the jury to acquit, stating that this case is “unique” in the whole of his career at the Bar and Judiciary.”
Her dad was cleared of eight counts of incestuous rape.

Just finished reading about this case and I have many questions flying past my mind.
From what i understand, at one point it looked like the dad had no defence. He was going to be found guilty.
How horrible this would be for any parent to be accused of something horrible by their own son or daughter. People who matter most in your life sending you to prison with serious accusations.
Of course there are other questions. Is her father too extreme/strict and she is a victim in any case? I mean strict to the point to cause psychological damage?
Is the daughter in need of psychological help? How did she get to this stage.
Wow. Just wow. I wonder if that girl would have told the truth if her father would have been sent to prison.
Is she facing any kind of punishment for this? I mean, trying to send your father to prison for raping the daughter is no trivial offense at all and there must be consequences in my opinion.
Last, but not least, which child or teen does not say that the parents are ruining their lives? I surely did when I was a teenager and the reasons were simply ridiculous. The reason was puberty, nothing more.

yes, and sometime it is only when you become a parent that you understand why your own parents where acting the way they were.

My question is how old the daughter was and why she was reading Fifty Shades of Grey? What kind of other material is she reading that could have contributed to this?
If her father was so strict how did she even get these books? It could be the father was too lenient and when he tried to change that he was seen by the girl as too strict.

Yes I cannot find any more detail for now. I was also wondering about the daughter age. All good points

I cannot imagine being in such a situation. I agree with @patrice -- it makes me think the father was too lenient and then was seen as an ogre when he became more strict.
