Why I’m Worried

Earth is a beacon
Shining blue marble in the darkness of space
Perfect for life
Diverse in habitat, nutrients and race

Evolution drives life forward
Pushing species, pitting them against each other
Forming a pecking order, the hierarchy of life
But resource sharing pulls life together

Man came
Thought all was ours with no restraints
Pinnacle of evolution
With a world of resources, we heard no complaints

Man grew
In numbers, intelligence and diversity
But never outgrew
Our evolutionary instincts

We lacked knowledge
All was our, but yet we own nothing
We lacked compassion
We love our material, but envy one another

Through necessity we co-operated
Civilization sprung up
Language, art, agriculture and engineering
Driving forces of human achievement

Through revolution, things changed
Religions show us a way
Industry propelled innovation rapidly
But love for one another ranged

Some put other before self
Unconditional love, to see humanity thrive
But fear still reigns terror
Family first, for life there is no other

Absorbed with self-preservation
Ignorance is blissful
Take what you need, without hesitation
Earth will provide us tenfold

We started off with plenty
Endless stretches of land and sea
Environmental cries were fleeting pleas
As boundless resources turn to few

A new world renewed our ambition
New technology came to fruition
But with few things left to discover
We continued to destroy Earth, our Mother

Frantically we search, the stars are our destination
Earth seems a lost cause, nothing can change it
Global warming, disasters, all wipe the Earth clean
A fresh beginning but all we see is the end

My goal with these posts are to familiarize myself with the Steemit Community. The poetry may be terrible, but I hope to stir up some thought on our situation on Earth.
