It seems like I completely forgot to introduce myself. I've been blogging away like crazy but I did not post the most important blog of all, I do apologize.

I'm from a Stellenbosch in the Western Cape, South Africa. My whole life I enjoyed things that challenge me. I like using my creative side to paint, draw and most resonantly I started blogging. I like to think about things as my wife can testify to this I'm on earth but I live in my own thoughts.

I started with bonsai when I was in school. My first tree I very bought was at a show that was hosted by the club that I am now a member of the Boland Bonsai Kai. I have gone through a journey of self discovery with bonsai as the only constent in my live. A few years ago this was me.

Loved my job but not in a good place. I have been overweight my whole life not know any better. I was a hard worker but when it came to my personal health I was lazy. Anything that concerned my appearance was not important for me it was all about get through the month and supporting my family.

After a few year in this state of mind I finally started to jog. I know this sounds mad but I got two dogs and they were very energetic and I needed to walk with them to keep them from digging up my garden. Walking lead to running and as they say the rest is history. I took part in my first Half marathon two year ago and have been riding the fitness wave since then.

On my journey to a health and an active lifestyle I have encountered many great people. The one that I would like to thank the most is @clinton54hendricks he is a true inspiration and and one hell of a coach. It's his birthday today so this post is for you buddy. He is to thank for this:

Through this all I have always been busy with my trees and I can say after dedicating my full attention to living a healthy life the rest all fell in place. I won my first every young designers competition and have been excelling in the art of bonsai like never before. A health body and mind paves the way to success.

Thank you for reading this post. It's been on of the hardest ones to write thus far.

Welcome to steemit and hello. I'm glad I discovered your blog. You are very knowledgeable on the art of bonsai. I like growing trees too. I grow them indoors so they are somewhat small but I wouldn't call them bonsai trees because I lack the discipline and knowledge of the techniques. I'm not afraid to prune branches that I don't like but other than that I don't train their growth really. I'd like to learn how to do so. I've seen you use wire to get the shape you desire. How do you get the trunk to swell? That's my favorite part. Is it just a matter of waiting for them to grow and expand? I'm following you and looking forward to the great content and pictures that you will post!

Getting the trunk bigger/thinker is a process. There are two ways you can do this.

First you can plant the tree in a bigger container for a few year and let it grow till it reaches the desired width. This process is called up potting.

The other way to do this is to plant it in the open ground for a few years. This will be a fasted process but you need to take the tree out of the ground regularly to trim back the roots. This is a labour intensive way to get the trunk thicker but worth while.

It also depends on the type of tree. Ficus trees like small pots for them to thicken up.

Hope this helps. If you have any more questions please feel free to get in touch with me.

Wow, thank you!

No worries let me know how it goes

No worries 😉

If I'm starting a kiwi from seed, what do you suggest for the future? Any tips?

Have not tried a kiwi before. Plant it in the open ground leave it there to thicken up. Then remove it and start working on it as a bonsai. Do not start in a pot as the process will be much longer. It's easier to start from nursery stock or bonsai stock as growing from seed might damp your spirit. Belief me you need at least five of more seeds and if you luck two might survive.

I do not want to be a Debbie downer but I'm not one to start bonsai from seeds.

I understand
I think that's why I usually just end up growing my trees without any discipline

Self-empowerment and improvement is wonderful. To make the world a better place, it starts from the inside-out.

Over a month ago I started a 20 push-ups for 20-days challenge. Then I continued to 25 for 25 days. Now I'm up to to 30 push-ups daily for the rest of this month. How many days in a row is that? Anyway, I'm rockin' and it's great. Gotta get my guns loaded up again.

Great to hear. Let me know how that works out for you. I'm all for self-empowerment.

I've upvote, upvote behind ok hope we can work together

No problem as soon as you start posting content I will read it.
