An Empty Chair. A Remembrance.

An Empty Chair.jpg

text16.png

This is a special post about the passing of a dear friend, Eleanor, last week. I always say that grief is to be acknowledged, no matter how small it feels. This is how I acknowledge it. For a week, I was looking for an empty chair. It is not simply any chair. It must be one that is so special to the heart so the grief can be acknowledged.

Why an empty chair?

You see, a chair is a symbol of human aliveness. We sit a lot these days. We can even build the world from our favourite chair. And when we leave the world, what is left is our essence and memory on an empty chair.

I don't know what is Eleanor's favourite chair. What I know; she is empowering and supporting others even through her tough time and she must be doing it from her chair or a bed. I remember where she sat when I met her for a meeting and I glanced over the chair. I feel the essence from the memory, I hear her voice but I have no clear shot for a picture.

Yesterday I was in Me.Reka Design and I saw a perfect chair for the post. I read through her Facebook where all her friends posted eulogy for her and I have a glimpse of how unique, amazing and cheerful she was as a friend. I'm sure she never sat on this chair (in the photo) but this empty chair is a perfect representation of a beautiful soul who left us too soon; Unique, Powerful and Impactful. I'm sure her inspiration is continuously affecting us through the ripples.

I hope her family and friends who are still grieving over her passing, find their strength and peace during this tough time. Acknowledge whatever that you feel. And remember that grief may appear in many forms; anger, denial, sadness etc.

Acknowledge it. Vent out your emotions. Talk about it. Do whatever you can and heal gracefully.

By the way, grief affects our lungs. Breathe and send love whenever we remember those who left before us.

Thank you!

I'm sorry about your friend @roselifecoach, and thank you @joelai for letting me know about this post too.

I love the chair you chose; an empty chair is a very strong image to use for someone who has passed, and this chair does your friend justice.

Sending big hugs ❤️

Thank you so much for your compassions @lynncoyle1, really appreciated that you taken interest to my story. Bless you.

Such a beautiful sentiment @roselifecoach. I really like how you approached this and the subject of grief. Blessings and healings during this time of sorrow.

Thank you very much @tryskele, really appreciated.

You're very welcome :)

Never have thought of a chair in that way before, sorry for your loss. #steemitbloggers

Thank you @sultnpapper :)

As much as death is part of life - it is still always sad when we are losing a person we care for. And the empty chair is a perfect symbol for expressing the loss.
#steemitbloggers

Thank you @mariannewest. It is a perfect symbol of power, presence and death too

Its so strange that we sometimes link and relate an item or instrument or material to a person or event.

Human mysterious mind :)

So sad for you. What a lovely tribute to your friend. Grief is, as you so rightly say, something to be acknowledged. Thinking of you @roselifecoach

Thank you @fionasfavourites for the loving thought. ❤

Yes, an empty chair is a great symbol for grief. I still look at my father's chair whenever I go home to visit (In a week's time it will be 7 years since he died). For a while it felt weird to sit in it.

That is a fantastic chair.

Big Love and Peace to you.

It does feel weird isn't it? I took years to get comfortable seating on my late father's chair. Thank you for your warmth respond. Hugs

You are so right, the empty chair is such a powerful statement of grief. Sending best wishes BB xx

Thank you @beautifulbullies. It is a powerful statement in many ways.

I had never thought of a chair in that way, but in hindsight, you're right. How often do you hear of someone having a favourite chair?! I'm sorry to hear of the passing of your friend. I hope you're doing well.

Thank you @steveblucher. I am doing well now. This morning I went to a Coffee Bean, a cafe where we first met. The memory of her is fresh and at the same time, I have the strength to face the loss. Hugs.

So sorry for your loss of Eleanor. It sounds like she was a very special friends who touched many people. Let the grievances happen, it's important to feel every emotion and let everything out.

I am certain her spirit lives on.

Thank you @nickyhavey. She is a wonderful funny woman to talk too. May her spirit finds love and peace, wherever she is right now. Hugs.

Strange chair

It is strange and unique chair. The body was made from a recycle drum, made by an artist. The color of the drum is blue and the cushion is red :)

So sorry for your loss. What a heartfelt way to grieve and remember a loved one. Very special.

Thank you @jusipassetti for the warmth respond. Hugs

Really feeling sorry for the great loss...and beautifully you took the sorrow feeling to the chair. It reminded me of my Grandpa chair...an old chair which is in my gor the last 40 years. Great to remember some old good soul...

Sorry for your loss.

I feel the same way. That's why I like to take photos and tell stories through it I supposed.

Thank you my dear.

You are welcome. There is no way around it, it's tough to lose someone we love.

Indeed it was, thanks @rebeccabe!

Condolences to you for your loss @roselifecoach. Peace and comfort. May you take your time to process the grief.

I didn't know that grief affects our lungs, thanks for sharing that piece of valuable information too.

#steemitbloggers

When I experience grief, I couldn't get it out through my emotional flow and I know I need to channel it out through tears. Before I got help from friends, the grief stuck at the lungs, it made me feel heavy to breathe. When we grief it is okay to cry, to feel lost etc. Feeling is our protector that help us connected to life when we grieve. It normally feel better after we cry.

An unusual way to remember @roselifecoach I plant a rose bush for each loss in my garden for close family, when in the garden I stop and remember something we enjoyed together my way of dealing with loss.

You way is very lovely as well @joanstewart.

This is beautiful. Condolences.

Thank you @blockurator.

Wow - I guess I'll never look at empty chairs the same way again. Kinda depressing but when we die we all go to a better place anyway. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you for the kind words @mikeycolon.

Sorry for your loss. Is this a chair that you will bring into your home? Or is it one that symbolised your friend?

It just to symbolised my friend, thank you for asking @bengy!
