Steemit - The most common reasons you're failing online and what you need to change

in life •  8 years ago

I've been in this 'game' for longer than I want to talk about and I've seen SO much of what others are doing to 'make it online' but failing from the start.

The best way I can describe my vantage point is that I am standing over a pool watching tadpoles swimming about and in among those tadpoles are some frogs that grew stronger and are able to hop out of the pool.

The tadpoles are the ones that are swimming around for the sake of swimming around and generally following each other around the same pool of water.

So, why are some people just tadpoles that will remain just tadpoles while others have grown in to frogs that leap the wall of the pool to find bigger adventures?

The most basic reason is due to a lack of original thought and just doing what everyone else is doing rather than thinking anything beyond that. When you choose to follow the crowd you will blend in, you will become lost, you will forever go with the flow and always be looking at what everyone else is doing so you can do the same.

I don't understand why SO many people make the exact same type of sites that use the same theme, the same topic/niche and even the same content sources.

STOP!! For the sake of all things, please, stop for a moment and ask yourself what it is you're doing that's going to get you better results than the next person. You use the same theme for your site, the same settings, they same ad networks and platforms, the same kind of content as well as the same images.

How is that going to get you ahead of the next person?

If you think your new site that uses that really popular 'free' theme/design that everyone else is using is going to make anyone swoon over your site then you're gonna be disappointed very quickly.

If you think that your site is gonna become a viral hit because you're using those really great 'you wouldn't believe what the cameraman saw next' type of titles for your posts then, again, you're gonna be disappointed very quickly.

There is an overall feeling I get from what I see and that is people are either too lazy to put any effort in to things but still expect outstanding results or there is a real lack of useful, accurate, information out there that's readily available that anyone can follow.

Maybe it's a mixture of both? As you read this it will be up to you to decide which category you fall in to but the good news is that both can be fixed.

So, those common reasons why people are failing online:

1) Too lazy to learn anything different than what others are already, blindly, doing

2) Too lazy to care

3) Don't have the time to invest in learning what really works and what doesn't

4) Following the wrong advice that is spewed out all over the place by people who don't have a clue

5) Unable to find the right information

6) Total confusion which leads to frustration

How can this be fixed?

Well, here's the great news; you're already in one of the best places to learn what you need to learn. Yeah, I am biased as I learned a LOT of what I know from being a member here at Steemit. I started out as a blind newbie but I had a thirst, an unquenchable thirst, to learn everything I could.

It is great to learn from others but it isn't always best to follow their exact moves. Even owning a blueprint for success doesn't mean you should follow it so closely that you become a clone of someone else.

Learning from someone means you watch what they have done and listen to what they did then you go and try exactly what they did so that you get the experience and learn from it. You then need to add you own spin to it.

If someone showed you how to make a suit and you then went a made your own suit you wouldn't keep making the same suit of the same color, style and material as them and and everyone else, right?

You'd want to look at how you can make your suit look more stylish, how you could make it a better fit at the waist, under the arms, across the chest and change the color too, right?

Well, creating a system online that is going to earn you money should be looked at in the same way. Learn to make the basic suit first and then discover how you can tweak things, improve on what you have created and take things in a different direction.

Yes, it takes thought and it takes effort so if you're lazy and you can't be bothered then you'll remain as that tadpole who follows the other tadpoles around for the same reason as all the other tadpoles are following each other around.

Instead of that, you need to be hungry to learn and develop an unquenchable thirst for knowledge and information. Be different, learn to make mistakes and learn from them. If you feel that you're just spinning your wheels then stop revving your engine and find out where first gear is.

You need to have a plan that doesn't involve following along with what everyone else has done.
