Turning Deficiencies into Excess

In college, I was a naïve and shy person. But that does not mean I do not like ngoceh. I do not know when since when I have a natural ngoceh habits to loose post here and there, and try to joke with jokes that PHENOMENAL really not funny.

There is one incident that I remember until now. A girl friend who was my victim in the group work, because it was soaring heavily heard me ngoceh, to put a pencil in his hand, turned towards me, and with the look of 'annoyed' really, saying, "Bawel really lu Ded, like a girl ".

At that time, I thought 'bawel and a lot of nonsense girls' is my WEAKNESS. For a while, I tried to reduce my 'weakness' by not saying too much and becoming an anti-nonsense ascetic.

Many silent during meetings. Many silent during the party. Many silent when asked to speak up front. Many silent during courtship, let alone fitting shift pay bills. Um ... And as a result? My studies, career, and business are stuck, and I'm not enjoying all the things I do!

My 'weakness', rambling, is a part of me that can not be eliminated or forgotten. So I went back to face my 'weakness', and turned it into EXCESS.

From 'ngoceh', so skill 'Public Speaking'! Dozens of years after the incident, 'ngoceh', or 'much talk', is one of my professions as a coach, speaker, and trainer! MBTI: Not A Weakness, Just a Difference! Now, as a coach who is also a certified practitioner in the MBTI (Myers-Briggs Type Indicator) of CPP Asia Pacific, I understand very well the differences and different POTENTIALs in each individual, which I even use as the basis of Team Dynamic training for companies!

The essence of the differences between one person and another, which may seem like a weakness in the eyes of others, is, or may be, your EXTREME! According to MBTI based on Carl Jung's personality theory, everyone is born with a different preference, and the preference of nature, or nurture, ultimately determines work style, our personality preference, even our potential! And in essence, each of these types has its own advantages, but there are NO 'superior' types in general than any other type!

Understanding that everyone is different, and understanding how you are different, is the first step in starting to turn your 'weakness' into an advantage! Simply put, there are four dichotomies in the MBTI.

Dichotomy 1: Extrovert and Introvert

A person can be different in the way he gets energy, and how he focuses his attention. That is, someone who tends to extrovert prefer to get his energy from 'outside sources' himself, like other people, or physical actions.

While someone who tends to introvert, collect his energy from within himself, such as reflection, thinking, and self-reflection. Consequently, an extrovert will tend to be eager, talkative, likes attention-seeking, and expressive.

While an introvert looks silent, enjoys personal activity, and loves a quiet 'me moment'. From the introverted eye, 'a lot of ngoceh' is one of the weaknesses of an extrovert, and from the extroverted eye, too silent and most thinker, is the weakness of an introvert.

Tips for Strengthening Pros:

An extrovert needs to find a profession and a position that he meets many people, where he can express himself, and act physically directly. While an introvert needs to give himself the position and work situation he can calmly work without much outside interference, and utilize his self-reflective ability to the optimum, such as writing.

Dichotomy 2: Intuitive and Sensing

Determine how one likes the information, form of information, or data it likes. An intuitive likes the big picture, and likes 'possibilities' in the future. When an intuitive wants to try new things and is always interested in potential future, a sensing has an interest in detail, on sequential things, and on the facts of the present. "The real ajalah!" Sensing like things that have been proven and already written.

From the intuitive eye, the weakness of sensing is someone who thinks most of the 'baseball detail is necessary', and too cumbersome, so, according to them, "creative baseball".

From the sensing eye, the intuitive weakness is someone who mostly 'dreams'. They see the intuitive type as someone who looks too far away without fact, rash, and not careful.

Tips Strengthening Pros: The intuitive type needs to be aware of its advantages as a visionary.

He needs to find a position and a partner who can help him realize his vision, or even optimize his creativity. While a sensing needs to realize his strength in detail and sequential data is a tremendous ability to realize and realize projects, by making some sort of benchmark and process steps.

Dichotomy 3: Feeling and Thinking

Determining how a person takes a decision, a feeling will tend to make decisions by approaching his decision, and see the effect it has on the people involved. He tends to keep the feelings of others, and avoid confrontation.

While a thinking is the type to the point and by the book. He will make a fair and 'should' decision according to the law. From the eyes of a feeling, the type thinking often looks too fierce, lacks empathy, and often offends others without realizing it, although in fact it only acts according to the rules.

While from the eyes of a type of thinking, a feeling is often too visible easily offended alias baper, 'mostly baseball', and not firm.

Tips Strengthening Pros:

A feeling type will function optimally in positions like PR, Human Relation, CSR, and positions that require interaction and maintain relationships with others. While a type of thinking needs to find a position where it can help make rules, or in enforcement and procedural steps.

Dichotomy 4: Judging and Perceiving A judging is a neat type and wants to organize and organize everything, everything is planned, with a three-ply plan done on schedule. Meanwhile, a perceiving tends to go with the flow, not making plans, or making an 'open plan'.

From the eyes of a judging, perceiving type weakness is someone who is 'careless' and disorganized, as if anti-neat, messy, and often late, and does not like decisions. From the eyes of a perceiving, the weakness of judging type is too rigid and not dynamic. Or often in their language, 'boring', and colorless.

Tips Strengthening Pros:

A judging type is a sharp and accurate plan maker, and can execute the plan well. He needs to find and perform planner, managerial, or supervisory functions and positions.

While a type of perceiving as a much more dynamic type, it is necessary to look for activities and work that are not much binding, and will expend its potential with a more open and developmental function. Sometimes, you do not have to cover up all your shortcomings.

In fact, sometimes, you just need to change it and OPTIMIZE IT into an advantage! Learn your weakness, because who knows he hides your greatest POTENTIAL!

Ask yourself, "What is my type?" "What is the positive value of my other 'weaknesses'?" And "How can I develop this 'weakness' into an advantage?"
