YOU CAN’T SHAKE HANDS WITH A CLENCHED FIST

in life •  7 years ago

Shaking hands is a sign of mutual interest and agreement. It is when two people come together for a common cause or an ideology that they form an alliance. Shaking hands is one of the representatives of treaty which shows that the two parties have great regard and respect for one another. It is a symbol of peace and unity. It proves that mankind can in fact be in harmony. But the problem occurs when the other party has no intentions of shaking hands.

It was wisely reported that:

“Nothing is to be gained by arguing with fools. Nothing can be gained by reasoning with the ignorant.”

Representation of Clenched Fist:

There are times when an argument arises between the two parties and they might object the psyche of the other party. In this case, the clenched fist represents the party that has no intention of negotiating. They are arrogant and self-centered and are unable to see the future consequences of their own actions. It is quite childish on their part. Because when it comes to mutual agreement a lot of things have to be compromised from both sides in order to obtain peace. But self-interested people can never understand.

It was Dalai Lama who pointed out that:

“I believe all suffering is caused by ignorance. People inflict pain on others in the selfish pursuit of their happiness or satisfaction. Yet true happiness comes from a sense of peace and contentment, which in turn must be achieved through the cultiv.”

Unworthy to Shake Hands:

When one obtains power, he believes that he believes himself to be the supreme. He believes that he owns everything and shaking hands with someone else might as well be a weakness he could never afford. So he does not bother negotiating with others but instead keeps stern and thus he becomes arrogant and ultimately a tyrant. Nobody wants to be with someone who only plays by his own rules. There is no need for communication and building of trust for the two sides. One cannot simply hope that the other party would surrender or give in without sacrificing anything.

As it was rightly said that:

“Relationship does not shine by shaking hands in best time. But it blossoms by holding hands firmly in critical situations.”

Refuse any sort of Help:

When a man is angry he clenches his fist, it can also be perceived as a person who is aggressive and he hopes to promise nothing to the other party. These type of people are not capable of shaking hands with anyone. If one were to ask them for any sort of aid, they would flat out refuse so there is no point to ask such people for help in the first place.

As Thich Nhat Hanh said:

“Sometimes, people who cannot find any way to resolve a problem with someone else are tempted to eliminate the problem by eliminating the other person.

This is not an act of freedom but an act of despair and great ignorance, it will not bring freedom or peace”.

Conclusion:

In the end, a man should be open minded and vigilant when it comes to forming agreements with others. People who are hard hearted or rather cold hearted and stubborn at the same time have a really tough time finding any allies for they always turn down the request of others while imposing their own agendas on them. One cannot be merely as foolish to believe that they could have any friends if they are not ready to listen to their requirements.

But Benedict Cumberbatch shares his experience as:

“I remember very clearly someone saying, ‘don’t shake hands with the cactus’, and I thought, ‘Well, why not? What could possibly go wrong? Shaking hands is a friendly gesture."
