Don't Mind Oppositions

If pesin no talk about u; na ein be say u no be anybody - Naija Adage (meaning: If you're not spoken against, then you're nobody)

The first time I heard this adage, it didn'tmake much meaning to me. But over time, I'm coming to realize that this is a righteous adage. Most times, the reason some people talk against you behind you back is because they can't be like you, or they're jealous of your successes and position. Sometimes, it could be a sign of envy - and that could be the reason "back" is affixed to "backbiting"; because they only talk behind your back.

But, for you to maintain your current position, you should care less of what is spoken against you. The moment you start minding opposition is the moment you've signed up to lose your current position. As a matter of precision; you can't stop people from talking against you, neither can you get everyone to love you - of course, you know it is practically impossible.

Just see it this way: What they talk against you is nothing more than a reflection of who they are, and not who you are, and this could be borne out of jealousy that you're making progress with fruits to show for it.

I remember when we were kids; where I grew up, there were many species of mango trees all over the neighbourhood. The season of German Mango; for example; might not be the season of the others. And as soon as the mangoes start bringing fruits, and are ready to be plucked, everyone's attention would be shifted to the mango tree. Kids would come to pluck it, and they would throw stones at it - because they see something in the tree. This is exactly what happens with people. If they put up opposition against you, that's because they can see something in you.

But when the German mango gets exhausted, the kids would shift attention from it to the other mangoes. In the same way; if people stop moving against you, then check your life, you might probably be on the wrong path.

If you're a gamer, you would appreciate this fact precisely: When you're near to hitting your target, that is when it would seem like the hell broke lose, and many oppositions would spring out, But refuse to mind the opposition, and they would get tired of you and become you allies.
