4 Ways To Trick Your Brain To Do Things It Doesn’t Want To

You know how we are sometimes so motivated that no challenge seems too big? In that moment you feel invincible and almost like a superhero where you can do anything and everything. You go through your to-do list in a snap!

Then there are moments, when you have to literally force yourself to do even the most trivial of things, let alone the really important ones. Yes, we all have those lazy days.

Sometimes our greatest asset, i.e. our brain, can end up being our own worst enemy. It knows that all the work or goals that it has set for itself, need to be done and that too in a stipulated amount of time, and yet it just doesn’t want to go through with them.

Well, there are ways you can trick your brain into doing all those things it doesn’t want to do. These might seem trivial or even nonsensical, but trust me, they work. I apply them all the time!

1. Find A Partner

When you have to do stuff alone, you might procrastinate without a single thought but when you have a friend to do it with, you are more likely to go through with it.

The easiest example that comes to mind is that of the gym. How many of us have joined the gym in the heat of the moment but never back since? I am guessing a lot of us, right?

Well, if you have a friend to go to the gym with, it is more likely that you would go. The two of you could keep each other in check and motivate one another to just do it. It is better if you have even more friends.

2. Break Work Into Smaller Parts

2.jpg

Sometimes the immense amount of work can simply discourage us to even get started with it because we perceive it as being just too much and thus that can be demotivating.

In such a case, you could break down the work into smaller parts that you can do in succession. That will trick the brain into perceiving the task at hand as being less strenuous and you will get a push to get started.

You can take breaks after completing each segment so that you keep the feeling of working on several smaller tasks rather than one large one. After all, it’s all about tricking the brain, right?

3. Set Rewards For Yourself

3.jpg

When you are trying to trick the brain, it’s all about making it feel better so that it might want to consider doing the task at hand and what better ways to make it feel better, than to set a reward system for yourself.

Let’s say you want to binge watch that new TV show really bad and you have all this work lying about. Set yourself a goal that you will only watch the TV show if and when that work is completed.

This trick can not only help you get the work done but also in record time because you would want to watch that TV show as fast as possible. One other great reward could be eating your favorite food. Try it. Really works.

4. Quit Trying To Be Perfect

This is something that is a major barrier for people in even trying something out. Perfectionism is an all or nothing mentality and the perceived efforts that goes into being perfect, is enough to scare you away.

You don’t need to be perfect at everything you do. In fact perfection is just an idea and not something that can be attained. For most of the things in life, it is completely OK to be just OK at them. Seriously!

Just make sure there are certain things that you want to strive to keep getting better at and focus your energies there, like work or skills or a relationship. Let all other things come under the purview of okay.

FOUR WAYS TO TRICK YOUR BRAIN - ORIGINAL POEM

Good advice to trick your brain
So my friend it's not a strain
Find a partner and motivate
Break it down and equate
and as you do each daunting chore
reward yourself and all the more
perfection now is not the aim
just work together in the game
so trick your brain, enjoy the fun
imagine all the work you've done
and once your work is done do boast
and thank Sauravrungta for his post.

I think everyone can find at least one.

Wow @sauravrungta , I must confess that you really nailed it in this post you made ... It is much more easier and inspiring doing things with friends than doing it alone , but some cases much time maybe required though than when you re alone..
I really love the part where you said we should reward ourselves after an achievement is made.. Lol

More than one friend is not suggestable in my opinion....

well, it depends from person to person.
