Death is an inevitability of life. If we are born, we have to die. Unless science figures out a way to make us truly immortal that is. Anyways, death is a necessary agent. It clears out the old to make way for the new.
Life likes to 'keep it fresh'. In fact, if there was no constant birth and death, I don't think evolution would have worked its magic to give us the diversity of species that we have today on the planet.
But I digress, death is a reality and we are all aware of it. Sort of. In the hubbub of life, we sometimes tend to forget that we are mortal beings and we are only reminded of it when someone close to us is taken away from us.
It is then that we ponder about life and death. Most people that I have talked to are quite fearful of death. But we must ask ourselves. Are we really afraid of death or are we afraid of the pain that is usually associated with dying?
Fear of The Pain?
Most of the ways death happens are painful. Accidents, sickness, wars, murders and many other ways people die all have a great deal of pain associated with them. We, humans, are naturally fearful of pain. That has been hardwired into us and probably every other species on the planet by the process of evolution.
But are we really afraid of death itself? Say, you could die without feeling any pain whatsoever. Would you still fear death? Death is literally oblivion. We don't even know that we are dead because we simply stop existing. In a way, there is peace in that. And I think we wouldn't be fearful of death if we look at it from this point of view.
But, and this is a huge but. If we have people that care for us and that we care for, then we would fear even a painless death. The knowledge that our death would bring untold pain and sorrow to our loved ones is simply unbearable.
So, in a way, it is not for ourselves that we are afraid of death. It is for other people. The ones that mean the most to us. In that way, our will to live is because of them. And that is a beautiful thing.
The awareness that one is mortal is a heavy burden.
The ability for us to realize that and prosper is only possible if we also have something else built into us...
Denial.

It's the fear of not doing the things we want to do before we are gone.

I'm not afraid of death. I die every night and I'm born again every morning. I've always been here and I always will be. Love, peace and unity!
