Life Happens In All Colors

The most difficult task in the world is to explain life and its meaning to a teenager. The reasons are simple. One is that you don’t quite understand it yourself and the other is that they simply might not be equipped to understand the full extent of what it is you are trying to explain to them.

That is why, when one of my teenager cousins asks me, I use the analogy of movies when trying to impart what little understanding I have about life myself. I see it as a very simple way to do it.

A good movie, takes you through a range of emotions. It’s like being on a roller coaster ride. There are parts in a movie that make you laugh, there are parts which make you a little emotional and then there are parts when you want to jump out of your seat and take on some bad guys.

Bottom line, life is exactly like the movies. It takes you on a roller coaster ride since your very childhood days, making you experience all sorts of people, situations and feelings. Some are good ones while others are bad, but you do get to experience all the colors of life.

Life and It’s Colors

We usually use colors to describe how something makes us feel. We associate white with peace, red with love and passion, green with nature’s goodness and black with the negatives of life.

Well, life is the whole color palette and you don’t get to decide which colors you would like to use to paint your story on the canvas of life. While you do have control over how much of each color you would like to see, you certainly can’t avoid any single one.

There are times when life’s good and everything is going really well which I like to call the Midas-Touch period of life. In such times, we feel really happy, joyful, passionate, inspired and motivated.

Then there are times when nothing seems to go right, no matter how much we try and how much we give it our all. In such times, we experience the darker colors of life like anger, frustration, disappointment and sadness.

Can Good Exist Without Bad?

Many thinkers say that both the good and bad are necessary in our universe. It is as though one can’t exist without the other. It is quite natural then that the same rule applies to our lives too.

Also, there is another aspect why the bads are equally important as the goods. For starters, we don’t realise the value of good things in our lives until they are taken away from us(the bad).

Also, it is in the bad times that we realise yet another thing. We realise who we really are and how strong we really are and what we are capable of doing. A lot of people re-discover themselves during their tough times and we come out stronger and wiser.

The bad times teach us the valuable lessons that each of us has to learn and the good times are the reward for applying such lessons in life. They really complement each other, if you think about it.

So, next time someone asks you what life is. Just say, it’s a multicoloured rollercoaster ride, kid!

It's also cool to notice that most "earthy colors" (browns, olive green, dark greens, etc) often have a combination of warm & cool colors within them. And then when you combine any two complimentary colors - you get different shades of brown/grey. Like adding two rainbow/celestial colors together brings you more "down to earth" - sometimes anyway. Rainbows blending into the earth... :) I know- there are exceptions to this - but it sounds cool anyway.

Yes, they do have that 'down to earth' feel :)

I like to see it as "even the bad times are good" since the bad times are what create the contrast between good and bad, and are the reason I can recognize a good day as a good day.

That's exactly my point! :)
