Why Being Patient During Tough Times Is Vital

The path of life is not paved with smooth stones. Well not entirely anyway. We are all aware of this. Life takes us all through this incredible journey where we get to witness the best of times as well as the worst.

If it was a smooth ride from start to finish, I wonder if we would even value the ride. The only reason why we value the light so much is that we know the pain of darkness. Darkness is therefore quite important.

In fact, it builds character, makes us wise and forges us into individuals that we need to be in this world. Take a look at some of the greatest success stories and you will find a common theme. Most are about people who rose from the depts of darkness to achieve great heights.

Regardless, it can be quite overwhelming to face prolonged periods of turmoil. After all, we are human beings and sooner or later, our emotions take their toll. In a world of instant gratification, things can become even tougher.

This Too Shall Pass

When it feels like you are constantly on a battle with life itself, when you are grasping for air because fear has paralysed you, it can feel quite impossible to be 'patient'. At that moment, all you want is someone to put you out of your misery.

But sometimes, you just don't have any other option, but to wait. Sometimes, all you can do is to let the storm pass and take shelter and lay low. Inaction feels a whole lot worse because you feel like you need to 'do something'. Something to make it all go away.

While we should make every effort to come out of our predicaments, we also need to understand the importance of patience, keeping our heads down and just moving forward. Keeping your eyes on the light at the end of the tunnel should be enough to do that.

If you feel overwhelmed, think to yourself, "this too shall pass". How many times have we fallen on hard times? How many times do we come out of it? Even the good times don't last infinitely. Why then do you expect the bad ones to last forever? Keep pushing but remain patient. You will get there.

The Vedas recommend patience and determination on the path back to godhead, where there is a return to our original state of sat chid ananda. Suffering is only for those souls embodied in the Maya of the material world. The vast majority of living souls are back at home, while we are the few in Durga's prison apparently.

Patience and determination are truly necessary. I haven't heard of the idea that the few of us are in Durga's prison so I can't comment on that. But yes, to reach anywhere, we must travel the road.

'This Too Shall Pass' is my motto in life. I've had it since I was little. I totally agree with your view. Nice post.

It's an important reminder every now and then for sure!

And patience is the only key! Only if anyone understands..

True that.
