Why It’s Difficult Being An Ambivert

If there is one thing you quickly learn growing up from a kid to an adolescent, it is that there are all sorts of people out there and rarely do you find someone who is just like you. We are all just so different.

This is one of the reasons why we are ’successful’ as a species because that has allowed us to explore different avenues while we all benefit from the sum of all that progress.

The difference in personalities also make for some really interesting social dynamics because it is so intriguing ts e how different people with different personalities interact with each other and how that helps form communities or groups of people with shared interest.

But it is not always easy to associate yourself with a certain (or fixed) group of people, especially for ambiverts who lie somewhere in between the introverts and the extroverts. I know, because I am one! And it is exactly this that I want to talk to you guys about today.

Outside or Inside?

We all know that introverts prefer to stay indoors and engage themselves with activities that can be carried out inside like playing video games or reading, writing, or any of the other cool stuff like that.

Extroverts on the other hand prefer to spend time outside, whether it is hanging out with friends or going to parties or other social gatherings or even sports for example.

Extroverts however, simply can’t decide. They like to stay indoors when they are already indoors and they like to stay outside when they are already outside. Since they enjoy both the worlds, it can be really confusing and conflicting in their heads to a point they start questioning if they are two people inside of one!

People Sometimes Don’t Understand You

2.jpg

Understanding someone means understanding their behaviour, personality, likes and dislikes among other stuff. Basically we understand people by creating a fixed image of them in our heads.

So, as an ambivert, people might not understand you and your actions sometimes. That is not their fault though, however. If they only know the one side of you, and suddenly you start showing traits of the ‘other side’, it’s natural for them to get confused.

This happened to me recently when one of my loved ones was surprised how I enjoyed travelling and being among my friends and hanging out because she had only seen my ‘introvert’ side before!! It shocked my as much as it shocked her!

Mood Swings

Mood swings are more common among us ambiverts. I cannot tell you how many times it has happened to me that I was having a really good time with my friends and suddenly I just wanted to crawl in my bed and not talk a word!

This is not helped by the fact that you tend to overthink things as an ambivert. Seriously! The tiniest of decisions can take a whole lot of time to decide because you are constantly trying to decide from both states of mind at once, which of course fails miserably.

This may portray yourself as moody and erratic to people and goes along well with my second point that people may have a tough time figuring you out. Even your closest people!

Thank you :)

I still can't decide on what I am :P

Just look inwards! :P

You're a badass writer. I totally just got sucked into your blog.
I am also an ambivert. The overthinking part is super relevant to me. That's part of the reason I really enjoy alcohol. Helps me get out of my head a lil, especially in social situations.

One thing to help me make decisions I've been doin lately is to let the universe decide — by flipping a coin, asking someone nearby, or other probability based deciders. It helps, even if I choose another thing after-all ;)

Thanks for the kind words. It really means a lot :)

Yeah, overthinking is the bane of my existence .... as I was born in it....moulded by it (sorry Bane reference :P)

hhahaha leaving it to the universe? I have never done that actually but it certainly seems fun lol

Hahaha NEVER be sorry for a Bane reference.

To thinking less! 🍻 And letting strangers make choices for us... 🍺

Ok that sounds a lil weird. I sound like a prime victim for something awful.

TO THE UNIVERSE!! 🍺
Cheers! 🍻🍻🍻

This is sort of like a Eureka moment for me after reading this post, I think I am an ambivert. That I myself don't understand me but I guess I don't just woke feeling like one. I just evolved gradually... mine was extrovert and introvert in that order.
Really appreciate you writing this and now I know there is such term. In medical term its like being diagnose and I know a little about myself now. Thanks for sharing!

Yeah, I can understand. It was a Eureka moment for me too when I came across this term. Everything started making sense lol

Ambivert wasn't that hard to be understood. Their action will be affected to who they're with. I am ambivert too.

That's really true! I agree completely.

Very recognizable stuff to me, never thought to link it to in/am/extrovertness :) Its a good read, thank you!

Thank you so much for the kind words :)
