This video will teach you how to BOOST PRODUCTIVITY by stopping SMARTPHONE ADDICTION and building a platform for healthy smartphone use.
Follow these 10 steps!
1] Perform an honest audit
Measure how much time you’re actually spending on your phone throughout the day. Seeing how you’re using it will allow you to make more intentional and mindful decisions about the kind of relationship you want to have with your phone. I saw that I was using my phone nearly 40 times a day. For me that's quite a lot! That's a problem!
Use Checky. This app shows you how many times you’ve checked your smartphone a day and allows you to compare stats day to day. While it doesn’t show you how much time you’re spending within each app on your phone, just seeing how many times you pick up your phone and swipe the unlock screen can provide some much-needed perspective on your smartphone use.
2] Keep 2-3 hours of technology free activity before sleep
Don’t shack up with your phone. ever!
Bonus tip- Set your alarm and keep it somewhere else which will force you to get up and turn it off.
3] Take a smart phone vacation at least one day in a week
Increase productivity, increases time (in 2 different ways! changes perception of time and makes one feel that time is always running out), de stressing and stress associated with work! People who take that mental break reported feeling more relaxed than others, reduces forgetfulness, become more helpful and volunteer more (because there is no longer a need for belongingness and being connected with others,
4] Run a phone time table and time how long you need to use your phone
Fix particular times when the device would be used and when it wouldn’t be. For instance, it would be best to keep smartphones away during meals or social gatherings.
5] Give purpose to your phone
Really sit down and reassign the purpose behind why you use your phone. For example, a phone is really meant for communication, calling or messaging. I use it mostly for that. Or it's a great way to stay on track by using it for scheduling and setting reminders. This is more or less what I use my phone for. If you have any other creative ways of assigning purpose to your smartphone, let me know in the comments.
6] Use these apps to help control your smartphone - Rescue Time, Breakers, App detox and quality time
Moment, it gives you an overall look at how much time you spend on your phone each day. Moment allows you to set time limits on your iPhone usage, and once you reach it, the app will block you from using your device. You can download these apps and configure them as per your convenience to keep your smartphone usage under check.
7] Make your smartphone dumber
Turn off Wifi or mobile data, turn off notifications. One of the things that makes these devices so irresistible to check are the pings, buzzes, and flashing lights that go off whenever you get a new email or someone has commented on your Instagram pic. You've become conditioned to pick up your phone at the sight of every new notification. Turning off your WiFi or data might seem like a small step, but it is very powerful in the larger context of beating smartphone addiction. Android users can use automate to help you with this.
8] Delete the apps that you don’t really need
You know the ones that I’m talking about! Facebook, Twitter, Temple Run, Candy crush. If you master the other tips on this video, you don’t really have to bother all that much about it.
9] Be rude
Resist the urge to respond to others messages even if you feel it is rude to wait. This may sound extreme, but it will help break the association in your mind that every message received demands an immediate response and over time will reduce the anxiety associated with replying to messages.
10] Change your phone and use a Dumbphone!
Cheaper, improves attention span, removes the need to upgrade your phone to the latest and greatest.
There's no denying that smartphones are a boon for all of us, but using them wisely and effectively to increase productivity is a responsibility we must undertake. Remember, don't let your phone control you, always make sure it's you who's controlling it.
