Scientists have made the crucial breakthrough in Alzheimers by testing human brain cells instead of mice.
At Gladstones Institute in California, scientists were able to successfully identify the gene that causes Alzheimer's and neutralize it so that it will not be lead to the disease.
The gene is called the apoE4 and if a person has a copy of the gene, it doubles the likelihood of developing brain damage. Sadly, "having two copies increases the risk by 12-fold."

This is brilliant news. I visit a home which accommodates Alzheimers affected folk. They are precious souls and difficult to converse with. Most of them are extreme but they love chocolates and just holding your hand. I lady that I personally know was a very dynamic successful beautiful woman. Today she is a shadow of her former self. It is a very tragic disease and at present, progressive.

Sadly, alzheimer becomes interesting and big issue at developed country but not at developing ones, although the number of patients in developing countries are believed getting higher and higher. Therefore, information sharing like this could endorse the need of those people related the issue in developing countries.

Diagnosed my mother has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's. She had MRI and pet scans and they told her that she has amyloid plaque in the brain. What can this information that you have here do to help her. Preventing something from happening is different than dealing with something that has happened. We have her in a clinical trial now which started for her just this last month. It is supposed to last 20 months. Any help is appreciated

This is good news, I assume if they find this gene, treatment could vastly prolong the onset.
