Last Minute Birthday Party Celebration @senseicat

Our son's birthday happened to fall on a weekday so he had school followed by football practice. At school, I surprised him by ordering cupcakes with a variety of whip cream and confetti sprinkles on top for his classmates. After football practice, his teammates and coach sang Happy Birthday.

After school on Friday, he had a playdate scheduled with a friend after school and the younger asked, "Why was I not invited to your birthday?" He seemed surprised that we only celebrated at home by ourselves. So, I suggested that we have a party right now! We all went home and I spoke to my husband who ordered pizza and got cake and a massive Happy Birthday balloon and we put it all in our garage. I texted several friends and everyone was available to come over at the last minute.

Neighborhood kids also came when they noticed the other kids gathering, They all played football outside. My husband gave them rides on our motorized couch that he built. The evening ended with his best friend sleeping over. My husband and I took turns making them meals, playing outside, and yep, a few video games too and everyone had a great time.

So many parties these days require lots of organizing, planning, reserving venues at a pretty hefty cost. One of the parents had a party at the trampoline places and it cost $900 after the 2 hour event. It was super fun and we absolutely love their parties. However; he said that a last minute party was SO much fun and no one had really ever heard of it.

In a way, it was all fun, zero stress, and extremely low cost $30.00 total. All the parents were happy that the kids had a place to hang out on a Friday night and all the kids kept saying how much fun they had!

We were super surprised that people even stopped to get gift cards as gifts because we were not expecting anything at all due to the late notice. Our son wrote thank you notes to everyone today letting them know how much he appreciated everyone coming to celebrate.

Now, we have decided to make this a Friday after school tradition by inviting all of his friends to spend the afternoon playing football or basketball in our neighborhood just like the simple things that we used to do when we were kids.
