5 Things That I Want to Accomplish This Year

I don't like making resolutions. I think that they are an arbitrary goal based on an arbitrary date. What I prefer to do it just improve myself day after day and work towards reaching my goals. I will use the calendar year as a guideline just because is gives me some accountability. So here are the five things that I am going to accomplish this year.

Reach 70 Reputation Score on Steemit

I have come a long way since my lowly days of being in the 20s and 30s, but I really want to make my mark on this platform and reach a reputation level of 70. I am going to do that by continuing to write good material, and support my fellow creators by upvoting, sharing, and commenting on their work as well. This is a goal of mine that should be easily achievable because I love writing and sharing my work with my fellow Steemians.

The support that I have found from this community through your upvotes and comments has really been inspiring to say the least. I have chatted with a few of you on Steemit chat (hit me up on there if you'd like to say hello) and you have all been friendly, helpful, and supportive. It's been an eye-opening experience and I am excited to share more of my work with you.

Record and Release at Least One Song

Poetry is my main genre of writing, and my poems are often more like song lyrics than poetry. There have been a number of times that someone has told me that my poems would make a good song, so this is the year that I am going to make it happen.

The problem is that I don't actually play an instrument. That can be overcome with technology and collaboration. I am going to use a software program called Band in a Box to record my song(s). Band in a Box lets you easily record music without knowing how to play an instrument. I can also use collaboration as a tool to enlist other musicians to help me reach my goal.

Music is one of the passions in my life and it would be an amazing experience to record and release a song and have people enjoy it. Look for new music from me at some point this year.

Publish a Book of Poetry

As I stated above, my main source of inspiration is writing poetry. I have dozens of poems that I have written and snippets of poems that I am working on. I am going to bring those poems together and release them in a self-published book. Hopefully I will sell a decent number, but if I sell 5, 50, or 500, I will have a published book to my name which is something that I have always wanted.

Interview More Interesting People For My Podcast

One of my favourite things about 2016 was having the opportunity to interview many cool people for my podcast. I interviewed writers, musicians, poets, artists, athletes, and TV personalities. People that I have admired and looked up and, as well as people that I didn't know.

The great thing is that I learned something from every single one of them. Everybody has a lesson that they can teach, a skill that they can share, and admirable traits that I can emulate. I hope in 2017 I can interview more terrific people and learn more from them and share that knowledge with my audience.

Just Become Better Each Day

The main goal for myself, and hopefully all of you, is just to become a better person day by day. I want to improve myself in many different areas and I know I have a long way to go, but I want to go to bed every night knowing something that I didn't know before, experiencing something that I hadn't experienced before, being kinder, more understanding, and most importantly, a better father to my son.

If I can accomplish all of my goals this year, especially the last one, I will consider 2017 a huge success. Here's to YOUR success this year as well.
