For the month of April, I have chosen to purge the excess from my home and life. I am going through the entire house to get rid of the things that are taking space, literally and figuratively. Why we live in such a state of over-accumulation is beyond me.
I did this purge last year and it felt phenomenal and I was accomplished to get rid of so many THINGS that were unimportant. I wanted to make room and have SPACE for what matters. What matters to me is having more time and energy in my home and in my mind for my growing children, family, and business.
I need space for my creative juices to FLOW.
I need space for my energy to FLOW.
I do not need an overabundance of anything other than TIME, MONEY, and EMOTIONAL FREEDOM.
It is SO EASY to get lost in the momentum of "OOOhhh, that's cute, OOOhhh, that would look great in my ..., "Suzie Q would really LOVE this..." We need to stop this mindset. We do not need for much, but we want for so many things that are unnecessary.
Spending and accumulating THINGS is not what life is about. It will not fill you up. It will give you temporary satisfaction, it will leave you cluttered, and it takes away from true JOY and love which comes from other JOYFUL presence.
Financially, it will leave you broke. How does it feel to spend good money and not really realize what you've gained from it? So, you spent tons of money over the last month. How do you feel now, looking at your credit card statement, how does it feel being set back financially, how does that ______ really look now? How does that broke, financial dispair FEEL to you? How does that affect your attitude, your relationships, your potential?
Are you setting yourself up for financial freedom so that you can eventually work less, spend more time doing what you want in life? How is your spending TEACHING and giving an EXAMPLE to your children who are watching your methods? How are you showing them to live financially? Abundantly, or irresponsibly?
Or are you digging yourself into greater debt to work longer and more, to pick up overtime, or to get a second job? If you now have to work more to satisfy your lifestyle requirements, how does that affect your life as a whole?
The bottom line is: are you living within the means you have set for yourself? Do you have an abundance of money that allows you to feel secure and in a good place or are you momentarily satisfied with your things? If you want XYZ, you have to set a plan to get XYZ.
When talking about spending, that could include the house, the car, the clothes, the education, childcare, etc etc etc. If your finances RULE YOUR WORLD, that doesn't leave much space for you to LIVE. How you set yourself up financially starts with making global decisions that are in alignment with the life you want to live.
What would make me tremendously happy instead of people giving me or my family PRESENTS that we do not want or need, would be for people to gift their PRESENCE and spend time and experiences with us. OR, give me and hubs a date night. I'm saying.
If you are thinking.. I need to do this, but you really aren't doing it. Get to it. You need less crap. You need more space. Creativity needs space. Your desires need space. Your time freedom needs more space (less stuff means less time cleaning, organizing, re-organizing).
Think about how your spending and accumulation is ruling your life. How does that look, feel, taste, and affect your BEING?
Get that PURGE on.
