Chris Cornell's Final Performance || And My Thoughts

in life •  7 years ago

This is the final song by Soundgarden: live at the Fox Theater in Detroit, MI, 5/17/17

In many ways... this performance makes me sad.

It's clear that Cornell is wasted. I can't imagine what was going through his head at the time.

Don't you think there's a problem with the culture, where high-performing, talented people are pressured to abuse substances and die at a young age?

Unmet expectations of ones own life...

It reminds me of what is probably the most important scene in Fight Club:

We have been promised so much as children.

We were told we could be anything we wanted. That things would just eventually turn out, make sense. That we would just find our place in society and be happy, content.

But that's not the reality, is it...?

Agreed. This needs more attention, but it's middle-aged white men, so... nobody cares.

Ouch. The truth hurts, I guess.

I think this society is sick, the structure has become so automated and alien we cannot function in a healthy way anymore.

Alienation is the right word.

Chris Cornell, Layne Stayley, Scott Weiland, Kurt Cobain...looks like Eddie Vedder is the only frontman left from the top-selling grunge bands.
