Gran Canaria <<< How it became Europe’s favourite Gay Destination >>>

Sorry to upload this story a bit late but I had too much work to do at the Hotel because my colleague was on holidays and I was alone as a Guest Manager.

As you know I’m living in Gran Canaria and I would like to write a little bit about how it has become, over the years, Europe’s favourite Gay destination.

Although the Balearic Islands received last year more than 10 million of tourists, Gran Canaria is one of the most touristic islands. We are really lucky because we have literally all year high season. The Balearic Island normally use to have high season from April till (more or less) October. I just want to let you know of this statistic because some people think that the Canary Islands are belonging to Africa. I know it’s really weird but it’s true!

The result of this amazing island? That a part from it's natural beauty with it's interesting history, it’s one of the most memorable destinations that you can visit. JOIN ME FOR THIS INTERESTING TOUR THROUGH GRAN CANARIA!

Why texting about the Gay destination?

Well, because Gran Canaria is one of three favourite places next to Barcelona and Ibiza regarding the Gay destination. For its part, the gay scene in Gran Canarias is concentrated in the southern part of the island, especially in Maspalomas, like the dunes of Maspalomas and Playa del Inglés, where most of the Hotels or bungalows are situated. This Island has also hotels or bungalows ONLY GAY FRIENDLY. The bar area has numerous exclusive gay locations, like for example The Yumbo Center in Playa del Inglés. It’s a shopping center by day, and it transforms at night into one of the biggest places to go out for Gays in Europe.

However, Gran Canaria's gay-friendly atmosphere isn't a modern marketing phenomenon; The Canary Islands were a beacon of tolerance in Spain way before the Yumbo Centre was built. And in my opinion, 18 years ago, when they started with the first Gay Pride till nowadays, everything has changed!!!
People are more open-minded and more tolerant. I try to go there every year. This year 2018 we were expecting more than 200 thousand visitors just for the famous Gay Pride.

For those who have never been there it’s one of the most craziest and fun Pride in the world. It’s not only a Pride, it’s a big surprise waiting for you. These two weeks are filled with various events like: festivals, parades, shows, tours, pool partys and concerts, with dancers, singers and drag queens. And they crowned every year Mister Gay.

2016 they crowned a friend of mine Ismael Kamal.
