JANUARY JANUARY

January is mostly associated with two things;

  • Resolutions &
  • New beginnings

It brings with it a mixed bag of reactions, to some its excitement and to others its the fear of unknown! Most people walk into January with cautious strides because of December. Remember that movie? "I know what you did last summer" that is always January reminding you how you spent December.

I mean, look at all the crazy things you do in December! It is the month that most people make alot of money, for us in the events planning business - it is a fruit plucking month and we eat with a big spoon! For people who earn a salary - the pay comes early and there is an extra bonus for the end of year and for the other people in business - its up the roof! We all can't complain and for the ones who are ever complaining may thunder strike them!

So January is always there reminding what you did in December;

  • It reminds you of all parties you held or attended.
  • It reminds you of your gluttonous intake of red meat and extra carbs.
  • It reminds you of all the expensive exotic destinations you took.
  • It reminds you of all the booze and macallan whisky that is sometimes exposed as fake!
  • It reminds you when you washed your hands with a full litre of black label whisky and claimed its known for its anti bacterial capabilities πŸ˜‚πŸ™‚
  • It reminds you how you became a tad arrogant to your favourite waiter because you had a little bit of money!
  • It reminds you of all the expensive clothes and shoes you bought.

All January does is to remind and it's unforgiving especially in this side of the world when the sun comes a few inches closer to earth, it is hot enough to boil water! There's nothing bad as being broke on a hot day!

BACK TO SCHOOL

Need i explain this? Do you remember our post on kenyans peculiar habits! Well, this is one of the habit. We are known as the last minute shoppers - now that our schools open on Tuesday the 2nd! Wow, wait a minute!, today is on a Saturday 30th, tomorrow Sunday 31st and on Monday 1st - a weekend followed by a holiday, shops do not open and i wonder how my people will do their shopping!! "Serikali ingilia kati" (a famous phrase that was coined calling on government to help) I am pretty sure that some kids will miss the opening day because they will not have shopped!
But i am happy because most if not all parents pay the school fees on time ☺

HOUSE RENT

Another common occurrence in January is locked doors for the inability to pay the rent on time. This time around is when grown ups play a game of hide and seek with each other! On one hand you have the landlord seeking the tenant and on the other the tenant hiding from the landlord - funny stories have been told of kids selling out their own dads to the landlord! Its called direct reporting! You have a dad telling his kid to tell the landlord who has been knocking the door vehemently to say he is not around and the same kid reporting "dad is telling me to tell you he is not around" πŸ˜πŸ˜πŸ˜‚ what follows from there is pure drama!
January will make you make enemies! Infact, you don't have a lot of friends in January because in most cases, you are unable to honour your debts!
Most of the things you do in January are in debt! You will be lucky to make it through to February without a loan.

ALL IS NOT LOST

Although January is a continuation of life as you knew it, you are always welcome to look at it from a different perspective. And as my friend who is still not on @esteem always says - its a month of walking;

  • Walking away from your previous troubles.
  • Walking away from abusive relationships.
  • Walking away from toxic friendships.
  • Walking away from bad behaviours.
  • Walking away from arguments that lead nowhere.
  • Walking away from any thought that reduces your worth.
  • Walking away from failures and fears that stifle your dreams and,
  • Walking away from things that poison your soul.

Look back reflect, take some, leave some and walk to a happier, healthier life!

RESOLUTIONS

January offers a clean slate to start all over again, to set a fresh - resolutions and dreams. Things that you would like to achieve within the year. Whether it's finally joining a healthy club, visiting your family more, worship, eating a healthy diet, new job, expanding your business etc it should be realistically within reach.

January isn't bad after all

That garbage bag with all the trash to throw out is so funny. I am actually decluttering today. I realized I have a lot of unwanted stuff like clothes, bottles, books, bad habits, etc that I need to leave in 2017. I still need to start waking up earlier though.

I wish you a great year full of opportunities and success.

Thanks Jean, some of those habits take a toil on us! Happy decluttering.

Wish you the best this year. May the almighty God bless you.

In kenya we call it " njaanuary!". Meaning hunger month.
