Help For Haiti - 100 % Rewards To Disaster Relief

in life •  8 years ago  (edited)

I hope everyone is safe and healthy this morning.

I woke up this morning and I went through my normal morning ritual of taking a shower, having coffee, and reading the news while I wake up. I knew the storm was coming but I still found myself overwhelmed with emotions while I read about the people struggling to deal with this hurricane in Haiti.

Haiti is part of a small island. The island has Haiti in the west and the Dominican Republic in the east. With the Dominican being the more popular tourist spot, poverty stricken Haiti is often ignored and overlooked. As tears rolled down my face while reading, I just felt as though I want to help, but I felt helpless. Then I got an idea. I know there is a great community of people on Steemit and I feel like this would be a great place to bring awareness and possibly get some aid for these humans in need. I could only wish that someone in a more fortunate position would do the same for me if I were struggling through a natural disaster.

The Plan

I want to be clear that 100% of the reward that I receive from this post will go to The American Redcross
I have never organized something like this so I did my research this morning to try and figure out exactly where I wanted to money to go, because I want to ensure the money get's where it's supposed to go and where it's needed most. This is why I chose the American Red Cross.

How The Donations To Red Cross Work

This is taken from the Red Cross website "Donors want to know how much of their donation goes to the humanitarian services and programs the Red Cross provides, and how much goes to our costs for fundraising and management and general.

The fact is an average of 91 cents of every dollar the Red Cross spends is invested in our humanitarian services and programs. We calculate it by comparing our overall spending on programs to our overall spending on fundraising and management and general."

What I Will Do With Rewards

As I stated, 100% of the rewards received will go to the Red Cross Haiti fund. I do not wish to gain anything physically from this post, but rather I am looking truly help others in need. I don't know how else to help other than raising money and awareness. I will provide proof after my reward is received showing the donations being traded to BTC, sold to cash, and being given to the Red Cross. All donations are given to The American Red Cross under "disaster relief."

If you would rather just donate instead of upvote, I encourage you to do so at The American Red Cross Disaster Relief. Honestly, a straight donation is more valuable than up voting my post since donations are not subject to Poloniex/Coinbase exchange fees.

I appreciate all up votes before they come and I am excited to see what we can do as a community for these people in need. If you would like more information please check the American Red Cross website. Thank you.

The money will only be cents in the dollar that ever gets to Haiti . . .

These are professional fund raisers and only a very very low percentage of donations actually gets spent in the disaster affected areas. This is simply a call for people to give money...

Remember the millions and millions raised after the Earthquake, where did it go ! ! !

If it went to Haiti why would these people have been living in metal tin sheds?

Money given to charities for Haiti will buy professional Americans nice new accessory assets ! ! !

I feel terrible for those poor people in Haiti but giving money to United States charities is not going to help them . . .

I posted this yesterday . . .

https://steemit.com/life/@crok/ah-the-professional-fund-raisers-hard-at-work-another-income-bonanza-from-poor-haiti-of-course-no-one-would-bother-donating-to

Long before I heard any word of disaster relief, the aid agencies are simply awaiting lots of emotional pictures to emerge to help frame the mind of people into donating . . .

Is not the World a grand nice place : (

I understand what you are saying, but what is my other better option? Put money in the mail and put a random Haitian address?

I know that not all of the money gets there, as the post stated the Red Cross claims that 91 cents of every dollar get's used for the disaster relief.

I woke up, I felt I couldn't help and this is something small that I could do to TRY to help. If I made no effort this morning then I would have gotten zero results. I honestly wish I could raise the money and go their myself and watch the money go to what I expect it to go to, but since that isn't a realistic option I chose an organization with a positive record. I understand not everyone is going to be fans of the ARC.

I would love to help many people but unfortunately it has just become to hard . . .

Sending clothing requires collections and sorting decontamination etc.

Foodstuffs risk spoilage and large useful things become a logistical nightmare ! ! !

That leaves money and that leaves the situation open to human greed...

It is great you are trying to help, in fact I started a website to report and investigate phony or inefficient charity donation websites and places.

Realistically I would just not be able to get enough people to hear my tiny voice compared to these scam artists who are prepared to spend 20% on marketing and advertising if it is likely to bring in even more dollars to their own bank accounts ! ! !

Sorry not trying to belittle what you are trying to do, but just trying to save caring people from giving to con artists ; apologies . . .
