While we are preparing for the London Marathon and about to bed down in preparation for a long day tomorrow, I noticed something different at our gateway to the capital, Euston station.
I was surprised to see that it’s now free to use the toilets.
It has always incensed me that the railway network could insist that we pay to take a piss or a dump just because it’s a busy place.
We don’t exactly have a choice do we? A little digging reveals the change has only just happened this month.
It could be that someone has challenged the 50p charge and used ‘Human Rights’ as a legitimate reason.
Maybe someone took a crap or a piss outside in protest and in full view of the public simply because they had no money at the time?
London is a large city full of eccentric characters so it would not surprise me.

There are still places that charge to piss, it's never a lot but only last week I came across a portacabin toilet with a payment scheme attached to it. It wouldn't open unless you gave it 20p.

I saw it announced recently that they would stop charging. We pay enough for the trains as it is.
When I was in Berlin recently I used the toilet in the cathedral, which we had paid to visit and there was just a plate outside for tips for the cleaner. I chucked a few cents in there and she accosted me when I came out to say it was too little. I didn't even have much change on me. Just annoyed me a bit.

I have seen these in Europe, but never in the UK. Some of them do expect it, and coming from an environment where its not normal for is to tip.., they can get pissed at us.. for pissing.. if you get me meaning ;)

When they used to charge were the toilets at least clean? I don't think I would mind having to pay to use the bathroom if they at least kept it clean. I have always thought it would be a good idea to open a series of toilets in large cities and public areas. You could then pay a monthly fee to be a "member" of the group. These monthly fees would go towards the fees of having someone on staff to keep them clean and tidy. Thus ensuring you have the best possible experience. I know I am weird...
