Some Steemians reckon that steemit will overtake Facebook.
I really, really beg to differ.
There is one thing that FB makes allowance for, which steemit doesn't, and that is intimacy. For instance, on FB, we congratulate our friends and family on their birthdays. I'm sure no one here at steemit, except for those who have privy to my personal info, knows when it's my birthday.
On FB I share my grandchildren's ups and downs, like how well they did at school this year. The pride at how well my one grandson, who is suffering from Tourette's Syndrome, is doing since he started taking medication. The love, support and sympathy we experienced when my mom died last year. No one on steemit really knows whether I'm having a wonderful or a horrible day, whether I'm healthy or sick, whether I need company or need to be alone, or how both my brothers-in-law who are terminally ill, or my sister who urgently needs a job after her husband died in June this year, are coping at this moment. My friends and family on FB do.
I love steemit, don't get me wrong. But it's a totally different cup of tea, and can't be compared to anything else, least of all FB. There will always be a place for FB (although you don't "earn" any money or power of whatever there), and a place for steemit where I can showcase my photos a bit, and maybe share a few controversial ideas anonymously without worrying about my kids disowning me!
Take care, and don't overindulge! Remember, January is a very long month!
:)
When I joined steemit i thought to my self that it would be like facebook, but in all fairness it is nothing alike.
Its more like a cross between twitter and reddit than anything like facebook.
I enjoy steemit I really do but I think what make people come back here is the fact that anybody can make some cash by posting.
Thanks for the post and i have upvoted and followed you :)

Thanks, artonmysleeve! I will follow you too! I realize that steemit has tons of value, as it encourages the sharing of ideas, art, photos, and everything else in between. In a sense, it's nice to be able to write stuff without all my family and friends knowing about it! So, I guess, steemit and FB scored 1 each. :) No, actually, steemit scores another point because on FB, some people glorifies their life. On steemit it's not necessary. So, the score is FB 1, steemit 2.

I've not been on FB since joining steemit, I think that FB is too intrusive into peoples lives, I once put a picture of my daughter on there and I got some random guy give it alike. this made me so mad so I changed my settings to the highest they would go, but after that, I stopped posting pictures of my kids on there, so in away facebook gets a -1 for me because of said reason lol
While been on steemit I have made some friends, we have met up and shared food and drink together. it was a class night, and to make things even better steemit up votes paid for it. I some how don't see facebook doing something like that lol

Nice point @snapperlize. Innovation of steem can mean changing its interface to be like FB. Imagine how much FB rake in daily and imagi e also if it were rewarding users for their posts. Steemit may not overtake FB now but will do eventually. Yahoo was once the topmost in the email world but other email providers has overtaken it.

I agree with you, emjoe. But what matters to most people, is the here and now, and unfortunately Steemit isn't there yet. It will come, and it will be good. It would be nice if people on FB can be rewarded for their posts, yes, and it is fantastic to learn about other countries and its people, (something FB can't give you), on this platform. It is slowly gaining traction. I, for one, love everything about Japan and now I learn a lot about Japan, by reading the blogs and looking at the photos. Both platforms work, for various reasons, if you know what to except of it. For the time being, anyway, as you say. One thing that is necessary and enables one to survive, is adaption to change.

Thank you, jono22. It's my wish for you too. I'm wondering what 2018 has in store for all of us! Certainly good things, as well as sad things. That's life.
