THE WORLD'S GREATEST DATA FORTRESS IN THE NORTHERN POLAR CIRCUIT ?

in life •  7 years ago

Yes you read correctly.

The greatest data fortress will be built in Norway

New data centres are build in north Europe again and again since a few years. Facebook uses the data space from Sweden and Denmark, Google from Finland and Apple from Denmark as well. Now there will be built a huge data fortress in Norway but with one little difference in contrast to all others. It will be greater than every other data centre around the globe.

But who is responsible for this project?

The American and Norwegian company Kolos is behind this great idea. It will open the project doors under the same name "Kolos-Data-Crentre" next year. The function of the center is to secure large amounts of data for other companies. They already promote this venture to be environment friendly and the newest technologies for cyber-security will be used as well.

The architecture firm HDR is responsible for the construction and already published the following pictures -

The building complex is located in north-west Norway surrounded by water and mountains.

This centre will be huge! 600.000 square meter to be exact. Just like 84 soccer fields!

The good thing about is that there will be more than 15.000 jobs after the complex was build. This is just a number for job around the project, up to 2.000 people will be working inside the data fortress.

The cold climate is a lucky find. It cools the servers down naturally.

The location was chosen to be Ballangen in north-west Norway, 225 km north of the polar circle. But what is the reason for that?

The building complex should be driven by renewable energy. It differs from previous data centers, which are criticized because of their large CO2 footprint and power consumption. The location has so many benefits, surely the cold climate is perfect as I mentioned above, but also the wind energy is profitable!

The third great thing about it´s location is the water which is surrounded from the complex and can be used to generate electricity. The water will also be used as a cooler to cool down the servers and will reduce the power consumption around 60%.

Since the complex will be built around water, it will be a challenge to collapse into the building.

According to CBNC -

Kolos company say the site will eventually draw on a record-setting 1000 megawatts of power

-Personal thoughts about this project -

I believe that the idea about this location is great. There are many natural influences that you can use to generate energy. Water, wind etc. I am especially fascinated by the environment friendly electricity.  Since technology is our future, we need more spaces for data and I couldnt think about a better place than north-west Norway. The thought behind creating more than 17.000 jobs is amazing!

Thanks for reading

Stay focused

Looks like the future. It must be a great place to work.

For me it's from the realm of fantasy. Very impressive. Thanks for the post. I learned a lot of new things.

It looks amazing right?

I suppose they also mine cryptos at those data centers, dont you think ? or am I wrong

makes more sense to do it iceland like genesis do because they get cheap electricity because of thermal energy - it's cool but i find it mindblowing that we tap underground volcanos for heat to power machines that crunch numbers that give us value vs time when it happened. it's like some crazy film! :)

I agree dud, Ive only been interested in Crypto for less than a year now, (almost a year) and i got in at the "right time" for me atleast. And the thing about iceland is its cold, you probably know this, but I reckon the lifetime of the computer or mining rigs will be longer due to the cold weather parts wont overheat as much

well you kinda hope so but it is made in china so who knows about 'lifespan' when it comes to little quality control on parts. time will tell, it probably does'nt add up to the damage we are doing to the planet all told but hey, in the pursuit of progress eh? that's what we humans are, the biggest virus the planet has ever seen. the planet will go on regardless! :) with or without us! :) at least for a little while :)

Oh yeah I see, its understandable the chinese just pump the stuff out xD (no harm meant) You're quite correct, I fully agree with you we are destroying this planet little by little, piece by piece.

Yeah true

Makes a lot of sense yes. But i havent read any news about it, but I´m sure it will be discussed

Yeah i reckon so too, I cant see why they wont, they have all the available means for it. And BTW you chose nice pictures for this article, that building is damn beautifull (lol im a bit fascinated with architecture and designs

Good post !!

you should look at the node pole. brilliant project, hydro power is certainly the way to go, that's why facebook invested so much in data centres in sweden,

Oh havent heard of it. I will do some research for sure, thank you

with this weather its good to mine crypto, as i know best place so far is island for this, free electro from gayzers and cold weather to cooldown pc haha

you´re so right! It would be perfect for mining

This is my favourite type of news, green energy technologies. And now when they are used to run a data research center, it is even twice better. The only thing that bothers me, is whether this center is strong enough vs nature disasters, 17k working people is a big number and their working space should be safe enough.

I see what you mean. North-west Norway should be save. There are just mountains and "water mines"

Amazing news! I was not knowing about data fortress. Thanks.

It will be finished next year

Great! I voted and followed you, would you like to vote and follow me ? Let's work together! :)

it is not a good think to ask for upvotes and follower, just a suggestion.. :)

Wooow , those are some amazing shots !! I am a very big fan of photography like this 😍😍 great content as always

Thanks beauty, those pics were amazing right?

Beyond amazing , I couldn't stop starring into them . Wonderful

weird time for your post eheh
btw didn't know about all this info, and i think that north places are btter for it.

Many of my writers told me that I post too late so they sometimes miss my posts so I thought to change the time sometimes :)

I agree with them, this is a better time! Hope you will post often on this timezone! ;)

There is rapid development in the field of technology. Thanks for the wonderful information.

Your welcome

Can't imagine how much time and effort it took to build that place. Looks really beautiful as well!

Its a lot of work but it should be finished next year

Interesting

I hope security will be very good aswell as you can imagen all that data must not get in wrong hands :)

I like your photos, please follow me

really interesting...in what quantity is date measured..or just how much data will be stored there

Interesting @soldier! Upvoted and followed

Great , Norway is hub of data , so informative post

damm this was epic to know about that :D

Thanks for sharing your knowledge about the project and also your personal thoughts about it. The topic is new for me so thanks for sharing with me!

Outstanding post and interessing.
Thanks for sharing such great post with us!
Really good work 👌

Yeh, we can hate those big companies, but they also can do good things. 17k jobs that are a lot. And they also think of the environment, that is a big bonus! In the north eastern part of the Netherlands, Google also plans a data centre, probably not as big as this one, and they say it'll be an autonomous data centre, mostly remotely managed, so not that many jobs created. But still, I like Google to build something in my little country other than having a sales office in Amsterdam.

I like the part about the 17,000 jobs. That is always good. Also how they will get the electricity and the water for cooling.

Great post

Holy fcking moly, looks so futuristic. Also, this is what I call efficiency, if it all works as planned.

6 month no son+winter 9 month, some peoples like it :)

Will Steemit and Blockchain generally benefit from it? Where is Steemit Data Source since we know where Google and Facebook gets theirs🤔
