Wow. That's just an amazing story. Sounds like you did a really good job with the situation. In my experience, when those guys put on the bullet proof vests there is a fear and adrenaline rise which can be serious.

So. You have a Valentine story for the rest of your life.

Thanks for sharing it with us.

Haha, I like the ending - "here's my number because nobody is going to believe you".

Crazy story...

:') Yes, I laughed about that too - he would've left his number anyway I think, but the way he did made me smile :D

LOL! Sorry to hear you got SWATed. You're lucky your police are so nice though. Some people that have had this done to them in the US have wound up dead.

Yeah, from what I've seen from the US Police I'm not a fan - full prisons and violent police. Here it's the opposite - we're using our empty prisons for emergency housing now, lol. I feel lucky for sure :-)

That's good. I think prisons should be more like housing anyway. Many people in prison shouldn't necessarily be in a cell, but just in a place where they can get help and rehabilitation. But prison in America isn't like that. It's just about punishing people for going against the rules of the country.

I'm 100% with you. My background is in the behavioural sciences and what you're saying here counts for prisons, but also mental health institutions (makes sense, sometimes they overlap anyway). So often we think isolating and 'pushing back' behaviour is the way to go and if someone goes 'calm' we think we've had success. Then the person goes back to the world and has a fall back. Why?! Because we didn't get to know them as a person and their individual challenges and responses to those challenges. I makes me sick thinking about how we treat people as societies sometimes - there's still a lot to learn and improve on this topic :-)

A really weird story, but the police had to check it out. Just shows how kids playing around waste their time.

Exactly, I'm glad the police didn't just shake if of as a joke. These kids... I suspect they very much like confusing the police. There's some troubled youth living in this neighbourhood, and their relationship with the police is probably a lot different than mine.

I would say it is a lot different lol. I hope they can track them down and teach them a lesson.

Hehehe - yes, that's what André is doing all day :') One of these 'local policemen' got famous because he knows all the kids names and then when he sees them in another neighbourhood he calls them by their name: "Hey, how are you, what are you doing here today?" - apparently these kids get very timid suddenly when they see 'their' policeman :')

It is sad really that they see a policeman as something else than there to help them. The attitude to the police has certainly changed since I grew up. If you are up to no good then I suppose the police would be the enemy.

Oh, absolutely. These kids are 'troubled' but not always doing really bad stuff though. Police always try to find the right tone: warnings with a wink, so to say. I've heard about adults who met 'their' policemen and then told hem how much impact the policeman had on their lives. Must make it worth the effort if you get that kind of response <3

It sounds like the police handled the matter in a cool and professional manner.

They sure did and in that sense this was a good experience - I'm glad they don't just assume things are fine.

OMG, what a thing to happen! 😮 I would definitely have freaked-out!

I would thank the guys. It's just one of those situations that gives great blogging material :P

Hahaha - INDEED! I should've taken a selfie :')

hahahahha I am telling you Rotterdam is Ghetto :DDD
kudos for those guys just going on a hunch even though it was weird for you.. the other way around would have been worse

(ps glad you are not held at gunpoint!!!)

Hehe - yes, big kuddos! I thanked them of course - and I'm really glad that gun was never pointed at me - I wouldn't have been able to write a blog in that case. Such trauma.

I was expecting a weird & kinky Valentine's surprise.... this is rather disappointing :) Glad you are okay, though!

Sorry to disappoint you with my less than kinky story :')

It's not your fault... the policemen should have done a striptease :P

Well, while he started sharing the story he took off his bullet-proof vest... :P

A for effort? ;)
But on the serious note. They (the police) had to check, because it would look really bad in the media if something were up and they could have known... It also is a small effort for the 'local' policeman who is in the area already anyway.

Yeah, they really had to, and I'm happy they did. Small effort though... I don't know. They collected 8 policemen who had to dust off bullet-proof vests and I'm not even sure if I missed another van.

:D

I'm still wondering if this is a piece of fictional writing or real story... Either way weird...

Nope, it really happened! :')

That is crazy! When I read the title, I thought it was a Swatting they did to you... Trolls on the internet get your IP address and send the police to your house! It has been done so many times thatblaw enforcement has learned to review and inspect.

Ohhh - is that a thing? My god that's scary.

Better safe than sorry. That's the kind of police efficiency and response anyone dreams about.
In venezuela the police are the ones who will kidnap you or steal your car, or worse yet, pay thieves to screw up up.
People are more afraid of men in uniform than of dangerous-looking men

I know, I'm very lucky to live here and have an honest, non-violent and approachable police force. It's always a weird sight for me when I'm in other countries and policemen walk around with weapons of all kinds :-/ Let alone the local people not feeling safe around them.

Whoa!!! The Netherlands sounds like quite an adventurous place :D

:') Nothing ever happens and then THIS! Lol!

Oh my! What a story! I always thought of the Netherlands as a safe and very fair country because I've seen it with my own two eyes. Those kids need to be thought a lesson. This is not funny any more. You don't play with the police, this is not a game. Good thing you're safe! Unbelievable!

The worst is that if they do this kind of stuff more often then the 'serious' calls don't get taken seriously anymore... So let's hope this was a serious exception to the rule.

My thoughts exactly! Not to mention waste of resources and if they have to check out fake calls they might miss important calls. I hope they will be caught.

Well I can tell some stories but I won't you are lucky that they came. But that on Valentine day... 🤣😂🤣😂 it would be a great party prank with some army friends. It's good that they are here.

Did you overcome your situation already?

I also had 2 policeman searching my house and ched because I had a burn hazard (that wasn't there) but it was fun watching them and it was because of my aquaponics system it looks like a drugs system but I grow vegetables in it. 🤣😂🤣😂 you could grow add in it also but my idea is more for food for the poor people under us that are hungry every day. 😊

Posted using Partiko Android

Haha, yes, I was feeling a bit restless for a bit but it left soon - then I started to see the bizarreness of it all :P

OMG, that must have been weird that they suspected drugs in your home! :') LOL! Were they really surprized to find out that it really was all just vegetables? :D

It was an ahaaaaaaaa 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂 when I said it was to help people without food.

OK, that was weird!
And for one more time I am astonished by the huge difference of the way police works in different countries...

Yes, even in Europe... HUGE differences :-/

Dutch people are not really known for their drama... :') Very down-to-earth. But it really was bizarro!

You have to be kidding me ... I kept reading over and over it, that this was some kind of fiction excerpt!

I know right?! Hahaha - but it was real...

Whatttt?! Crazy story...

I was gonna say that's enough excitement for one month, but keep some for when you come to London! Hopefully nothing crazy like that, but will be fun and exciting, we'll make sure of it ;)

That's some mad shit! I've had a similar experience years ago in Vegas when one night (the middle of the night) a loud knock on the door of my apartment woke me up. I opened the door to two policemen pointing their guns at me and the reception guy with a list. They were looking for someone who had stayed there before...I told them I wasn't a guy called Jose Rodrigues LOL and they were more than welcome to search the place just in case they thought I was hiding him. The reception guy stammered: Oh, sorry, I see now, the guy checked out three days ago....They apologized and left, leaving me with a near heart attack (the police in Las Vegas can be quite intimidating).

really? Id be like 'wtf???' lol it must have been nuts and then the phone number too lol. Id say it was a little scary too, stab vests an all

wooooow ahahahah what a crazy story! did you start laughing when he asked if you were being held hostage?? I think I would have LOL. But wow, incredible! Good to know though that they would come if they had any doubts about it. Sometimes they do good too =) Sucks for them that it was a stupid prank

Oh my dear lord, 8 ofthem, i would bein ahwww state aswell,
Great writing about it 😉
