Have you got any good ideas?

Every day we are guarding 8 hours straight at the base.
Every day 8 hours straight.
Standing in the same place, doing the same thing, over and over again in order to keep our country safe.
Along the way you find yourself loosing your mind...
In a 8 guarding shift:

First hour you absoulutly focused.

Second and third hour you're starting to get bored.

Now you've got 5 fucking hours to spend alone in a guarding towel.

So I ask you guys. What do you do if on a daily basis you have a 8 hours guarding shift, alone, just you, your weapon and god.
How would you spend your time?
I'd be happy for creative and productive suggestions...

You can practice reciting scripture in your mind that you've memorized. If haven't done that yet now is a good time to start.

I would practice naming all 12 apostles and all 12 tribes of Israel.

The apostles are best memorized in groups of 4
Peter, James, John, Andrew
Matthew, Thomas, Philip, Bartholomew
James the less, Simon the Zealot, Judas not Iscariot, Judas Iscariot.

You can also practice naming all 50 states and all the elements from the periodic table. For states you remember how many there are for each letter.
4 A & I's, 3 C's & O's, 8 M's & N's, 4 W's.

You can practice remembering your school schedule throughout junior high and high school.

You can practice remembering all the books of New Testament in order.

Absouluty going to give all of it a try, thank you! :)

Well, I think you have started off on the right direction by posting and commenting here! Be proactive during your shift. I worked as a watchman on a building site for a while and found that brain training exercises and learning were what kept things interesting.

Anything you can do to learn about anything you can will be worthwhile during those hours. Even just analysing your surroundings and having a real think about it like: "How did they build those... Why is that placed in that exact position..." etc. helps keep the brain ticking and make your work more bearable.

Hope this post tickles your interest and wish you the best for the rest of the shift!

Unfortunately, the all area near the guarding towel is known for me like my on hand...
Need something creative to past the time...
