To the rescue, how they did it 193 years ago

Lifesaving in the old days wasnt like today where we have motorboats helicopters and other fance equipment to save the lives on many people on sea.

We went to a demonstration on the island of Ameland where they demonstrated the way they saved lifes the old way. They started ding this in 1824 almost 200 years ago with horses.

Thats how they found out that it would be a good idea to let the horses tow a trailer with a giant boat on it, the lifesaving boat.

So first the horses tow the trailer about 1000 meters to the sea and thats where the pull the trailer in the water and release boat. pretty impresive

August 14 1979 , 8 horses drowned in the sea. So that made them think about replacing the horses with new techniques.

The photos wil give good impression how it worked
