The Orange of the Arctic Ocean, The Narwhal, source of vitamin C for Eskimos

in life •  8 years ago

We humans need vitamin C otherwise we get scurvy. Near the North Pole are no plants and trees. The Eskimos or Inuit, mostly eat meat like seal, whale, caribou, fish or seabirds. The food is eaten on the spot raw or cooked

Primates (like humans), guinea pigs, and some bats are the only mammals that have lost the ability to synthesize vitamin C in the body. We need a diet with vitamin C

Narwhal or Narwhale or Monodon monoceros

The Narwhal is called the unicorn of the sea because of its horn-like tooth, which can grow up to 3 meters. The dophin-like Narwhal can live up to 50 years.

The Narwhal is south by the Eskimos because of the vitamin C in the skin. There is about the same amount vitamin C in one ounce of narwhal skin as there is in one ounce of oranges.
