Hi, Steemians! Today I want to touch on the subject of reality shows, and in which way they correspond to our lives. To what extent do we live in a certain Truman show, or Hunger Games, maybe?
Let's continue! Altough this is an old topic, I wanted to bring it up again here in front of you, in the light of recent conversation I had with my friend Nikola. He claimed that a reality program shows a "real life", but a scripted one, and, because of that, it is harmfull to people. I agreed with him on that one, but I emphasized another point: these shows are, more than anything else, a reflection of our society. Scenario writers are writing stuff that people wants, stuff that people watch.
Let's go a little deeper into our reasoning on the subject.
As we all know reality shows (such as Big Brother) are full of obscene stuff: they're full of sex, violence (verbal and sometimes physical) and, all in all, negative paradigms for human life. Nikola held a tenet that such content should be restricted to pornography hours, at least, if not prohibited.
But I thought for a second, and I came to conclusion that such content is a product of our society, as much as it is it's influencer.
Here it gets interesting! This problem represents common human escape strategy: when it gets though, I am not the one who is to blame. It is always easier to blame someone else, prefferably undefined else, who is responsible for all of our misfortune.
And when things got hard, you started looking for something to blame, like a big shadow!
I shared this flashback imagery with my friend Nikola and we both had a good laugh, and agreed that our culture isn't something that we get, rather, it is something we ourselves create! The modern man is, if we are to judge by our reality shows, one that loves to eat to much, drink to much, to fight and get into brawls, but above all, one who seeks sex in any given opportunity.
We must confront our own shadow in order to move forward, because that's how winning is done! When we look at reality shows for what they really are, only then we will be able to grow past it!
