A common piece of advice I've noticed from a lot of 'successful' people is to take risks.
Tim Ferriss says it, Helen Keller, T.S Eliot, Mark Twain, the list goes on. Basically, anyone who has ever done anything great, when asked about how they have done it, replies with something along the lines of, "I had to take a risk". Nothing truly great ever really happens to anyone who sits in the confines of their comfort zone. This advice is summed up so well in a song I recently heard on the radio by an Australian artist, Seth Sentry.
This is a very poignant piece of information for me right now as I am at a kind of crossroads currently. I have been a huge believer in the possibility of becoming a digital nomad for a while now. Though the thought terrifies me, quitting your job in hope of making a living from less conventional means.
I want to take the risk!
Here's where I stand in my life at the moment
- we have a nice rental home with a means of transport to get to and from work
- we both have steady full time jobs
- we have free time in the weekends
- we also enjoy sports during the week and yoga on the weekends
To sum it up, things are pretty bloody swell for us.
Are we greedy to want more?
I don't like capitalism, I don't like the idea of selling my life for a pre-determined dollar amount every week. 40 hours a week is like 80% of your waking life. It just doesn't seem right! I want to live a life where I work on my on terms, I decide what my time is worth, and I can give my value to whoever I decide at the time. Right now, I give my value (if any) to you!
Our Crossroads
- I have just been offered a Manager position at the warehouse I drive for. This will be a slight increase in income but an even steadier job with more regular hours (no more 3:30am starts!!)
- we are also going to be travelling again in less than a year. If we want to set ourselves up for a nomadic lifestyle, we should start now!
- there are golden opportunites to make money online as an affiliate marketer, a blogger and also through the rise of cryptocurrencies
- my wife works in childcare, so any change in her schedule should occur at the start or end of the year to minimise disruption to her kids and we have started to talk about her quitting her job at the end of this year and focussing on making the digital nomad thing work!
What do we do!?
So, now we are deciding. We are halfway through a two week holiday and all of these ideas are enjoying the opportunity to gallavant around our heads. It is both exciting and terrifying at the same time! But based on what Seth Sentry has told us, as well as Tim Ferriss and all the other epic people in history, we have to take that risk!
encouragement encouraged!

Generally the whole no risk no reward thing is based on calculated risks. For example how much do you make from blogging crypto etc etc now? if you were to quadruple your time invested in it would you quadruple your profits?
have you checked how sustainable it would be to do that?
no risk no reward still means you have to do your homework.
would it be possible for one of you to stay working or maybe both move to casual hours and do less per week?
if youre thinking of doing it all online do you have the skills required or is it more of a fantasy youre hoping will work?
I love the idea of being a nomad too and working for myself but at this point in time i know its not feasable at least for another 2 years.
Ive begun crypto mining, crypto trading, blogging, dropshipping and facebook advertising to see whats going to work and what i should put more energy into. I work my job around 50 hours a week and put maybe 20-30 hours a week into the other but 90% of my income comes from my day job so until im splitting my income 50/50 between day job and the other stuff i know even if i put in more time i wont make more money.
Good luck to you though whatever you decide but make sure you choose what is sufficient as well as what makes you happy. :)

At the moment im chucking down up to $2000 on single trades which have low risk and making a few hundred at a time. Not making heaps with blogging yet, made $16 on a single steemit comment last week though, haha that was awesome!
I'm gonna push the mrs so she has no choice but to make this work!
By the way, how can you do a 50 hour week and then do an extra few hours a night on trading and blogging? I'm knackered by the end of the day!!
