Is acid relux effecting your day to day life? Well worry no further. I have everything you need to know.
What is Acid reflux?
Acid reflux is a condition where the lower oesophageal sphincter (the muscular ring at the lower end of the oesophagus) is abnormally relaxed and allows the stomach's acidic contents to flow back or 'reflux' into the gullet (oesophagus) witch can then leave a unpleasant icky, bitter taste in your mouth. In really extreme cases, this can cause choking.
These are some of the symptoms of having acid reflux-
heartburn (an uncomfortable burning sensation in the chest that often occurs after eating)
acid reflux (where stomach acid comes back up into your mouth and causes an unpleasant, sour taste)
oesophagitis (a sore, inflamed oesophagus)
bad breath
bloating and belching
feeling or being sick
pain when swallowing and/or difficulty swallowing
Sore throat
How can you help acid reluxation and what treatments are available?
Self-help measures – this includes eating smaller but more frequent meals, avoiding any foods or drinks that trigger your symptoms, raising the head of your bed, not eating late at night before bed. Ensure your not eating to many breads/pastas and keeping to a healthy weight
Over-the-counter medicines – ask your pharmacist to recommend an antacid or an alginate
Stronger prescription medicines – Seek GP advise/ even make an appointment so they can prescribe something stronger.
I hope this has helped all my steemiters 🌿
Wishing good health to everyone.
