No Reason To Keep It Top Secret

in life •  8 years ago

Last week I found myself once again neglecting my Steemit curators duty, this time for family reason. That was my mother.

Unlike myself she is very much involved with religious matters. One of her pets is a male monastery about 600km away from Moscow to the east, in Mordovia region.

The monastery is not very old and famous one, it was founded about 150 years ago as female monastery.

After 1917, when a new revolutionary government started to repress religion  it had little chance. After some time, alike famous Solovetsky monastery, it was converted to jail.

The mother of my mother, so my grandmother, was arrested at 1940, soon after she gave birth to my mother and her tween brother, at the age of about 20. She was released at 1954 and died soon after, at the age of 35. So, my mother doesn't know about her very much, but she was told by someone that her mother was jailed somewhere in Mordovia, so it might very well be the same place.

Later on the jail was converted to orphanage and after that the place was just deserted for many years until at the nineties  The Orthodox  Church got remains back again.

After that a dozen of male monks started to run monastery again. With a help of many donators ( my mother did some fundraising work too ) by now it is about half-reconstructed.

So, by now my mother decided that she is tired from going there and back, she just want to live nearby the monastery.

There is a small village close to monastery, it is now almost deserted and the land is available for no money. If we could build a house for her there she would be absolutely happy for the rest of her life, she told.

So we went there, for me to see what it is all about.

Well, it doesn't look bad.

So, we are waiting for beatification of the prior now and hopefully soon the construction works could start.

I'll be there then to supervise, but definitely would try to find some time for voting from mobile phone, but probably not for blogging )

Wish us good luck )

Absolutely beautiful architecture... in the old days of the Tsars they sure knew how to make good buildings.

I wish I could move to a beautiful old village somewhere in the mountains, tinker in my workshop and tend to gardens and a small menagerie of food and other useful kinds of animals.

Yes, these one meter thick brisk walls with funnels inside...)
As for little house in mountains, it seem to be not so hard to get?

It makes me sad to think of your grandmother imprisoned so soon after giving birth and not getting to know her children, and her family not knowing her. That looks like a very peaceful village for your mother. I can certainly understand that she would get tired of going back and forth.

I guess one day I'll write more about this family story, but will have to go through archives first.

It would be interesting to know if it was the same building.

I guess there's no way to know for sure now, particularly because she had a very common name.

fuck you and your 4 posts a day rule, im quiting because of you! fuck steemit!
